Warlock Patron: The Protector
The Protector
You have forged a pact with a powerful guardian of battle—a guardian that stands between their companions and certain death. Now, their drive is yours, and you will give everything to protect your companions at any cost.
Pact of the Shield
Your patron bestows upon you an otherworldly shield through which you can channel their protective magic.
Otherworldly shield. This shield thrums with eldritch energies, and bears the unmistakable mark of The Protector. You can use this shield as a spellcasting focus, and while you hold this shield, your Armor Class is increased by 2.
Expanded Spell List
The Protector lets you choose from an extended list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
Protector Expanded Spells
| Spell Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 1st | compelled duel, mage armor |
| 2nd | barkskin, enlarge/reduce |
| 3rd | glyph of warding, life transference |
| 4th | fire shield, stoneskin |
| 5th | hallow, wall of force |
Protector's Pact
Starting at 1st level, your patron bestows upon you the ability to protect your companions by channelling eldritch magic. You learn the eldritch barrier cantrip, and you forsake the ability to learn or cast the eldritch blast cantrip while you are sworn to The Protector.
Eldritch Barrier
Abjuration cantrip
- Casting Time: 1 action
- Range: 60 ft
- Components: V, S, M (iron shavings)
- Duration: 1 round
A wave of protective energy surges from you to a willing creature you can see within range. If the creature has at least 1 hit point, it is enveloped in a translucent, otherworldly barrier and gains 1d6 temporary hit points. The temporary hit points are lost when the spell ends.
The spell can affect more than one creature when you reach higher levels: up to two creatures at 5th level, up to three creatures at 11th level, and up to four creatures at 17th level.
Intercept Attack
Starting at 6th level, you can intercept attacks directed at nearby creatures. When a creature you can see hits a target other than you within 5 feet of you with an attack, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage the target takes by 1d10 + your spellcasting modifier (to a minimum of 1 damage). Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
Vital Barrier
Beginning at 10th level, when you cast eldritch barrier, you can spend a Hit Die to strengthen the barrier with your own life force. Roll the die, and increase the number of temporary hit points granted to the target creature(s) by the result.
Eldritch Veil
Starting at 14th level, your patron teaches you how to protect yourself with some of their otherworldly magic. While you aren't incapacitated, you have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects, and spell attacks have disadvantage against you.
Invocations of The Protector
The Protector lets you choose from an extended list of invocations when you gain a warlock level. The following invocations are added to the invocations list for you.
Barrier Burst
Prerequisite: 5th level, eldritch barrier cantrip
When a creature affected by your eldritch barrier loses their last temporary hit point in an incoming attack, you can use your reaction to spend a Hit Die and cause the dissipating barrier to lash out at the attacker. Roll the die, and deal an amount of force damage to the attacker equal to the result.
Guardian's Sight
Prerequisite: eldritch barrier cantrip
You can cast eldritch barrier on willing creatures within range even if you cannot see them.
Powerful Deflection
Prerequisite: Pact of the Protector feature
When you use your Protect Creature feature to intercept an attack from a creature within 5 feet of the target you are protecting, you can push the attacking creature up to 10 feet away from you in a straight line.
Superior Barrier
Prerequisite: eldritch barrier cantrip
Creatures affected by your eldritch barrier gain +1 AC.
