Spellshaping

Masters of geometry, Spellshapers are able to warp the very fabric of the arcane and change the shapes and sizes of spells being cast, expanding and contracting areas for any situation.

Spellshaping

When you adopt this tradition at 2nd level, you gain the ability to sculpt your spells into different shapes.

Whenever you cast a spell that effects an area, you can sculpt it into a different size and shape by choosing the new shape and following the below table. Set N to the radius or length of the spell you are casting.

Starting Shape New Shape Formula
Cone Cube N/2
Cone Cylinder N x 3/4
Cone Line N x 2
Cone Sphere N x 3/4
Cube Cone N x 2
Cube Cylinder N x 3/2
Cube Line N x 4
Cube Sphere N x 3/2
Cylinder Cone N x 4/3
Cylinder Cube N x 2/3
Starting Shape New Shape Formula
Cylinder Line N x 8/3
Cylinder Sphere N
Line Cone N/2
Line Cube N/4
Line Cylinder N x 3/8
Line Sphere N x 3/8
Sphere Cone N x 4/3
Sphere Cube N x 2/3
Sphere Cylinder N
Sphere Line N x 8/3

You always round the result of this equation down to the nearest multiple of 5.

As an example, if you were to shape burning hands, which is a cone with a size of 15 feet, into a line, the line's size would be 15 x 2, meaning that the line would be 30 feet long.

When you shape a spell into a cylinder, the height is equal to the radius. When you shape a spell into a line, it is always 5 feet wide. When you shape a spell into a cone or line, the origin of the spell must be in your space.

Divert Spells

At 6th level you gain the ability to create small pockets of safety within spells. When a spell is cast that affects an area, you can choose a number of creatures that you can see within that area, up to a number equal to your Intelligence Modifier. Each chosen creature automatically succeeds on its Saving Throw against the spell.

You must use your reaction to do this, unless you are the one casting the spell in question.

Additional Spell Shapes

Starting at 10th level you can shape spells into even more shapes, each of which is detailed below

Cross

A cross consists of 5 cubes, all placed on the same flat plane with 4 of the cubes extending off of the central one in the cardinal directions, each sharing a face with the central one. In order to shape a spell into a cross, you must first use the formula needed to shape it into a cube, and then divide its side length by 2. Each cube in the cross uses this side length. The point of origin lies anywhere on any face of any cube, so long as that face is not shared by another cube.

Inverted Cone

An inverted cone is identical to a cone in shape and size and uses the same calculations for spellshaping. The only difference is that its point of origin lies in the center of the circular face of the cone, and as such, the area grows smaller as it extends away from the caster.

Ring

A ring uses the same spellshaping calculations as a cylinder, and takes on the same shape as one except that another cylinder of 1/3 of the radius of the original is removed from the center.

Split Line

A split line is the same as a line, both in geometry and in spellshaping calculations, except that the point of origin lies at the center of the line.

Starfield

A starfield consists of several 5 foot diameter spheres. To shape a spell into a starfield, you must first use the formula needed to shape it into a sphere, then divide the radius by 5 (rounding up). The result is how many spheres make up the starfield. Each sphere has its own point of origin, and all of the spheres must be within range of you, or another sphere.

Concentrated Arcanum

At 14th level you can condense spells down and make them more potent. When a spell that affects an area is cast and the caster is within 60 feet of you, you can choose to halve the length or radius of the spell, and increase the Spell Save DC for that spell by 3.

You must use your reaction to do this, unless you are the one casting the spell in question.
