Cartographer

Exploring massive rainforests and vast deserts isn't much good if you don't write any of it down. Cartographers take this mindset to heart, trying to learn everything about their environments and use it to their advantage in combat. They are also master tacticians, able to analyze their enemies and strike from the perfect angle.

Ranger Level Feature
3rd Mapmaker, Combat Analysis
7th Spacial Positioning
11th Perceptive, Improved Mapmaker
15th Biome Master, Improved Spacial Positioning

Mapmaker

Over the course of a long rest or while traveling, you can map out a circular area in detail with a radius in miles equal to your Wisdom Modifer. As long as you have a detailed map of an area on your person, it is considered to be your Favored Terrain. You also gain proficiency with cartographer's tools.

At 11th level this radius increases to double your Wisdom Modifier.

Combat Analysis

Beginning at 3rd level, when you roll initiative in your Favored Terrain, you can choose to roll a 0 and add no modifiers. If you do so, on your first turn whenever a spell or ability you use forces a target to have to make a saving throw, all targets make their saving throws at disadvantage.

You can do this 3 times, and regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Spacial Positioning

Starting at 7th level, you are able to apply your knowledge of maps and locations to battle. When you gain this feature, you choose a number anywhere from 20 to 60. Whenever you attack a creature that is exactly that number of feet away, your attack roll is made at advantage.

You can choose an additional Combat Positioning distance when you reach 15th level.

Perceptive

At 11th level, you see everything. Whenever you make a Skill check using Intelligence or Wisdom, you also add the other modifier to the check.

Biome Master

At 15th level, you've learned to make the absolute most out of your environment, gaining the following benefits while in your favored terrain:

  • You gain a +1 bonus to all attack rolls.
  • When you hit a large or smaller creature with an attack, you can choose to knock it prone.
  • Your group can move stealthily at a normal pace.
