Way of the Phantom Fist

Monks who choose to follow the Way of The Phantom Fist learn how to use their ki in a different way giving them the ability to use illusions and charms. Monk following this way are tricky opponents to fight. They can hold their ground alone, but their talent truly shines when they fight with others.

Student of Deceit

A follower of the way of the Phantom Fist must first learn how to trick others without the use of ki. When you pick this subclass at level 3 you gain proficiency in the Insight and Deception skills.

Phantom Arts

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you begin your training of the phantom arts which teach you how to mix illusions and charms with your combat style. You learn the first moves of the Phantom Arts and how to best use them in combat. The moves you learn are called False Security and Clouded Mind

  • False Security: At the start of your turn you can spend 1 ki point to force a number of target's equal to your proficiency bonus to lower their guard. All of them make a Charisma saving throw against your Ki save DC. If a target fails all attacks against them until the start of your next turn have advantage.
  • Clouded Mind: At the start of your turn you can spend 1 kill point and target a number of creatures equal to your proficiency bonus. All of them make a Charisma saving throw against your Ki save DC. If a target fails all attack rolls it makes until the start of your next turn are done so with disadvantage.

Ki Trickery

At 6th level you area able to recreate the effect of certain spells using your ki. You can cast these spells without the need for a material component a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. If you run out of uses you can cast the spells by spending 1 ki point . The spells you can cast are: Charm Person, Mirror Image, Fear and Silent Image. Additionally, you gain the Minor Illusion cantrip if you don't already know it. All uses are regained after a long rest.

Mastery of the Arts

After mastering the basics of the Phantom Arts you learn the second and last pair of moves called Blinded Fury and Oblivious Eyes.

  • Blinded Fury: By spending 2 ki points as an action you can concentrate on a creature withing your line of sight. The creature must make a Charisma saving throw. if it fails it treats all creatures around it as enemies and on it's turn it must attack the nearest creature to it. The affected creature can make another Charisma saving throw at the end of it's turn. You concentrate on it as you would a spell using the same rules. The effect lasts up to 1 minute or until you lose concentration.
  • Oblivious Eyes: As an action you can spend 2 ki points to turn you and a number of creatures equal to your proficiency modifier invisible. You concentrate on this ability as you would a spell. The invisibility lasts for up to 1 hour or until you loose concentration. If a creature attacks while invisible it looses it's instability, but everyone who has not attacked doesn't. if you attack all creatures affected lose their invisibility including you.

Impenetrable Mind

Your understanding of the Phantom Arts has reached a level where your mind has become more resistant to mental effects. When you reach 17th level in this subclass you gain the following benefits:

  • You have resistance to psychic damage if you already don't.
  • You can see through illusions.
  • You are immune to magic that allows other creatures to read your thoughts, determine whether you are lying, know your alignment, or know your creature type. Creatures can telepathically communicate with you only if you allow it.
  • If you are targeted by a spell from the enchantment or illusion schools of magic you can instead as a reaction spend 4 ki points to reflect the spell towards another creature that you can see including the caster of said spell.
