## Surveyor
From even the greatest horrors irony is seldom absent.
*We could tell just by looking at this being. Floating like a beholder and smiling with the cunning of a human, it took effort to not let Hoggar strike them down where they stood, but it was worth for all the secrets they held. They knew where to find treasures no one else did.*
— Galvar Eisenherz,
dwarven king
### Inhuman Intellect A surveyor sees in all directions. It is always looking for concealed attackers. If a human acted this way, the constant vigilance and lack of true peaceful rest would lead to a dangerous level of psychosis, but a surveyor's mind accepts this attitude as normal and necessary -- it is always alert to the possibility of assassination or betrayal to them or their companions. Complementing this ever-present, passive paranoia is the surveyor's high intellect. Where another creature would ignore occurrence of two seemingly unrelated events as merely coincidental, a surveyor imagine multiple ways they could be related, finding or fabricating a pattern out of supposed or actual randomness. ### Miraculous Birth Being born without equal even among your peers invite pride in a sense that few humans would be able to comprehend. Not only are beholder kin naturally entitled but surveyors are unique even among those and consider themselves pinnacles of beauty and power. Since their progenitor tries to finish them off at birth and not many creatures bear the patience to connect with such a paranoid and proud creature, most surveyors have already tasted loneliness and longing by the time they find a group for themselves making them stalwart, if difficult, companions. ### Adventuring Tendencies Contrary to the reclusive and tyrannical beholders that try to keep to their caves and lairs, surveyors have a hard time staying put in one place and most end up living as adventurers. Inheriting a heroic aspect from their adventuring parent they tend to follow the same path as they did be it studying magic, taking up the sword or making pacts with the very same beings their parent did before them. Although surveyors might be classified as grumpy, those that stick around soon find a more heroic side to them. ### Surveyor Names Surveyors name themselves, often coming along with titles that represent their conquests and achievements just as much as what they want to live for.
