# Warlock Patron: The Ancient Your patron is an entity that has existed for an unfathomably long time, perhaps since the beginning of the world. Ancient civilizations might have revered it as a god, or shunned it as an evil being. Its motivations usually involve chronicling or maintaining history, but some may wish to tamper with it instead. Pacts made with such entities often involve gathering information about the world, exploring ancient ruins to unearth age-old artifacts, or either aiding or vanquishing people who are messing with time or history. ### Expanded Spell List The Ancient lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you. ##### Ancient Expanded Spells | Spell Level | Spells | |:----:|:-------------| | 1st | Earth Tremor, Shield | | 2nd | Dust Devil, Immovable Object | | 3rd | Erupting Earth, Slow | | 4th | Guardian of Nature, Summon Construct | | 5th | Animate Objects, Temporal Shunt | ### Unearthed Secrets Starting at 1st level, your patron endows you with the uncanny ability to gain insight into your enemies' secret weaknesses while you invoke your patron's magic, and you can concentrate on that magic more easily. While concentrating on a warlock spell, any attack you make is a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20 on the d20. In addition, you gain a bonus to your Constitution saving throws to maintain concentration on your spells. The bonus equals half the level of the spell you're concentrating on (rounded up). ### Call of Antiquity Also at 1st level, you gain the skills necessary to more effectively unearth hidden knowledge. You gain proficiency in the Insight and Investigation skills. If you're already proficient in either skill, your proficiency bonus is doubled for any check you make with that skill.

You decide what the object is, or you can determine what it is randomly by rolling on the Mystical Timepiece table. ##### Mystical Timepiece | d4 | Timepiece | |:----:|:-------------| | 1 | Hourglass | | 2 | Pocket Watch | | 3 | Replica Sundial | | 4 | Incense Clock | The timepiece's AC equals your spell save DC. Its hit points equal your warlock level plus your proficiency bonus, and it is immune to poison and psychic damage. If the timepiece is destroyed or you lose it, you can perform a 1-hour ceremony to receive a replacement from your patron. This ceremony can be performed during a short or long rest, and the previous timepiece is destroyed if it still exists. While your mystical timepiece is on your person, you always know the number of hours left before the next sunrise or sunset, and you can accurately recall anything you have seen or heard within the past month. Also, as a reaction when a creature within 30 feet of you that you can see makes an attack roll, an ability check, or a saving throw while the timepiece is on your person, you can subtly manipulate time around the creature to grant the roll advantage or disadvantage (your choice). Once you use this ability, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest. Starting at 10th level, you can use this ability twice between rests, and starting at 14th level, you can use it three times between rests. \pagebreak ### Weight of the Aeons By 10th level, you have gained greater endurance to the passage of time. You suffer none of the frailty of old age, and you can't be aged magically. You can still die of old age, however. Your endurance also allows you to gain advantage on saving throws against effects that would reduce your speed or cause you to become restrained, paralyzed, or stunned. ### Bury in the Sands of Time At 14th level, when a creature fails a saving throw against one of your warlock spells, you can magically take away some of the time it has left to live. The creature ages by one year, to a maximum of 30 days before it dies of old age. The aged creature has disadvantage on the next attack roll, ability check, or saving throw it makes. A Greater Restoration spell cast on the creature within 30 days from when it was aged can restore it to its previous age. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier, and regain expended uses when you finish a short or long rest.
