Way of the Squared Circle

Monks of the Way of the Squared Circle understand fighting as one of history's oldest and greatest storytelling traditions. They are natural performers, knowing there are feelings that can only truly be expressed through a right-hook to the face.

Those who follow the way of the Squared Circle may be members of a performing troupe, bringing laughter and joy to the world through flamboyant displays of physical prowess. Most adopt a persona, striving to be seen as heroes worth rooting for, or villains worth rooting against. The walkers of this way usually don elaborate, colourful outfits that command awe from their friends, enemies, and of course, their audience.

3rd-level Way of the Squared Circle feature

You gain proficiency with the Disguise Kit and Improvised Weapons, which are monk weapons for you.

You also gain a special outfit, which forms an important part of your unique fighting persona. You determine its appearance, or generate its defining characteristic randomly by rolling on the Gimmick table.

3rd-level Way of the Squared Circle feature

You have developed advanced grappling techniques that allow you to manipulate your opponent's strength against them. You become proficient in the Athletics skill if you are not already, and your proficiency bonus is doubled when using Athletics to perform a Grapple. Additionally, when performing a Grapple attack, you may make a Dexterity (Athletics) check instead of a Strength (Athletics) check.









Signature Moves

3rd-level Way of the Squared Circle feature

By combining quick grappling techniques with theatrical flourish, you can use unique Signature Moves to punish your enemies. When you use your Flurry of Blows on a Grappled target, you can choose to end the Grapple early to replace one of the Unarmed Strikes with a Signature Move. At level 3, you have access to the following Signature Moves: Suplex, Biel Throw.

Biel Throw

You throw the target up to 15 feet away from you. They take Bludgeoning damage equal to two rolls of your Martial Arts die + your Strength or Dexterity modifier (your choice).

Suplex

You slam the target on their back with sheer force. They take Bludgeoning damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die + your Strength or Dexterity modifier (your choice) and their speed is reduced to 0 until the end of your next turn.

Attitude Era

6th-level Way of the Squared Circle feature

Your Ki-infused fists allow you to Grapple even the slipperiest targets. You are able to Grapple creatures normally immune to being Grappled, but they will no longer be Grappled at the end of your turn. This does not apply to swarm-type creatures. If a creature provokes your Attack of Opportunity, you may instead attempt to Grapple them.


Additionally, your Signature Moves gain the following additional effects:

Biel Throw

The target falls Prone.

Suplex

The target cannot take reactions until the end of your next turn.

Grand Gimmick

11th-level Way of the Squared Circle feature

You have poured your heart and soul into a powerful new Signature Move that represents your persona. You add one of the following to your list of Signature Moves: Low Blow, Knuckle Shuffle.

Low Blow

You aim for a cheap hit at your target's weakness, demoralising them. The target takes Bludgeoning damage equal to two rolls of your Martial Arts die + your Strength or Dexterity modifier (your choice), and you impose disadvantage on attacks they make against you until the end of your next turn.

Knuckle Shuffle

You deliver a powerful punch and an irresistible taunt at once. The target takes Bludgeoning damage equal to two rolls of your Martial Arts die + your Strength or Dexterity modifier (your choice), and you impose disadvantage on attacks they make against creatures other than you until the end of your next turn.

Superslam

17th-level Way of the Squared Circle feature

The Ki flowing within you enables feats of grappling prowess that would normally be impossible. You may Grapple creatures up to two-sizes larger than you, as well as creatures normally immune to the Grappled condition. You still cannot grapple swarm-type creatures.
