Boarkin

We attempted to approach the strange pig man to ask for help for our injured. As we neared, the pig man stopped his digging in the underbrush to look at us and let forth a loud screech while stamping the ground. Stanislav ran at the sight of this, we never saw him again. If we weren't so desperate I would have joined him. Instead I calmly continued to approach while quietly beseeching help. Two more steps and the pig man lowered his head and charged at us while emitting a blood curdling bellow. I'm telling you, if you see one of them out there just leave it alone.

Race Details

Hailing from remote regions of the wilderness, Boarkin mostly keep to themselves. Each tribe is led by a Matriarch Sow who herself has mothered much of the tribe. Most other Boarkin spend their time providing for or protecting the tribe while some Boarkin are long distance travelers that maintain contact and trade between different tribes which are often weeks of travel apart.

Insular and Reclusive

Boarkin often have no interest in other cultures and peoples, seeing them as more trouble than they're worth. While Boarkin won't particularly go out of their way to avoid other people, they expect to be left to their business and any attempts at interacting with them are often met with aggression. This is because Boarkin feel that their way of life is being encroached upon and that other species only seek to impose their will over the Boarkin simple way of life.

Even between different Boarkin tribes relationships can be tense, uneasy alliances. They only seek to trade and occasionally mate with different tribesfolk if it suits everyone involved. On occasion, Boarfolk tribes have been known to hold agreements to come to each other's defense in times of strife but these are times few and far between as most people that live close to a Boarkin tribe also see them as more trouble than they're worth so often leave them be.

Matriarchal Wisdom

Tribes are ruled by a Matriarch Sow who also acts simultaneously as a wise woman, mystic, or guru. She is often much larger physically than the rest of the tribe and much longer lived, almost as if bearing the sheer amount of piglets she has increases her vitality. The rest of the tribe all look up to her and follow her sage advice, younger child bearing females often aspire to be the next Matriarch Sow.

Male Boarkin and non-breeding Female Boarkin take up all kinds of roles within the tribe equally as the only gendered aspect of their society that concerns them is if you bear piglets or not, which is considered a point of pride amongst Boarkin. Many Boarkin busy themselves as simple tradespeople, gatherers, hunters (Boarkin are omnivores), or travellers.

The Long March

Boarkin that choose to eschew tribal life often travel extensively for numerous reasons all for the betterment of the tribe. Some travellers spend most of their time journeying between different tribes which are long distances apart to share news, trade, or mate. If a Female traveller becomes with child in another village she will often settle there to have her litter.

Some travellers function a lot more as explorers, seeking new things of use to their tribe. Whether that be new types of tools, technologies or magics, these are always brought back to improve the tribe. As a result, it's not uncommon for some very old tribes to have many unexpected technologies or building styles that have been introduced by their many travellers over the years. The rare times a Boarkin is encountered in cities or amongst different civilisations, it's most likely they're a traveller on the trail of something exciting to bring back to their tribe.

On very rare occasions, Boarkin decide to not return home to their tribe. This is most often due to changing loyalties as once they bond to a group of people, they may start to consider that group their new tribe, Boarkin or not..
