A New Race

Slowly creeping into cities, mimic hybrids are an unknown race. The new neighbor that moved in, the drifter at the inn, or even the old beggar can all be Mimic Hybrids in disguise. Trying to keep innocuous, Mimic Hybrids try to keep out of the public eye and blend in.

Life Cycle

The exact origins of Mimic Hybrids are unknown. All Mimic Hybrids can follow their lineage back to Veil.

The Treasure inside

Like traditional Mimics, Mimic Hybrids covet treasure. The treasure each Mimic Hybrid covets tend to differ, some will hoard gold, some magic weapons, or even as mundane as buttons.

Mimic Hybrid names

Since Mimic Hybrids do not live in groups they have no culture themselves. Instead learning about the culture they are surrounded by. Mimic Hybrids will usually pick common names from the area they are in or use part of the name of their host. Sometimes they will fancy a name that alludes to the treasure they covet.

Mimic Hybrid Traits

Ability Score increase: Your constitution is increased by 2, and one other stat of your choice is increased by 1.

Age: The total lifespan of Mimic Hybrids is unknown. Some have claimed that they can live up to 60 years and enter adulthood around 12 years old.

Alignment: Mimic Hybrids by nature are predatory beings, seeing no difference from prey to prey. They tend to be neutral but will conform to the society they are in.

Size: Mimic Hybrids are built like well-proportioned humanoids. Your size is medium.

Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision: Accustomed to life underground, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Acidic Resistance: You have resistance to acid damage.

Stealthy: You have proficiency in Stealth skill.

Monstrous ancestry: Your creature type is Monstrous (shapeshifter) in addition to being humanoid.

Mimic Object: You can use your action to transform into a medium or small object or back into your humanoid form. Your statistics are the same in each form. Any equipment you are wearing or carrying is not transformed. You revert to your true form if you become incapacitated. You can only use this feature to transform into an object and back once per long rest.

When you are transformed into an object, gain the following:

  • Advantage on stealth rolls while you are not moving.
  • Disadvantage on stealth rolls while you are moving.
  • You cannot use armor, shields, and weapons unless stated otherwise.
  • You lose the benefit of magical items unless stated otherwise.
  • Melee weapon attack: Pseudopod Reach 1D8 + your Strength modifier bulging damage
  • Melee weapon attack: Bite 1D8 + your Strength modifier piercing damage and 1D8 acid damage
  • Immunity to prone.
  • Your movement speed is 15 feet.

Natural Armor: You have tough, rubbery skin. When you aren't wearing armor, your AC is 11 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield's benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.

Hoarder: You can store up to 5 tiny objects or 1 small object in your body.

Languages: You can speak, read, and write common and 1 language of your choice.
