Introduction
This book is intended to serve as an ExpanD&D Supplement, adding additional content to help make the Mass Effect 5e (and by extension Mass Effect in general) more compatible with ED&D content. For the core mechanics of ED&D, please see the ExpanD&D Revised document.

A Fattening Galaxy
New Mechanics
Included in this section are new mechanics specific to the Mass Effect setting.
Dextro and Levo food
Unsurprisingly, in a setting as massive and diverse as the Mass Effect setting, there exist a wide variety of creatures, and some of them experience unique difficulties when interacting with others on the galactic stage. Of particular note are the Turians and Quarians, whose DNA follows a different Chirality (often described in layman's terms as handedness) from the majority of the galaxy. While most species in the setting follow Humanity in exhibiting Levo-chilarity (or left-handed) amino acids and DNA, Turians and Quarians structures use a Dextro-chirality (or right-handed) configuration. The most important distinction this makes for these rules is how they process food; the receptors and enzymes in each species won't be able to recognize or process food created for the wrong chirality, which means most foods (with rare exceptions such as Ethanols or foods created by the Powers in this document) that are created for Turians and Quarians will be indigestible to any Levo-amino species, en vice versa. In most cases, this simply causes the food to pass harmlessly through the digestion system, often producing no more severe effects than lactose intolerance might. In some cases, however, this can lead to severe allergic reactions, potentially even fatal ones, especially for the adaptationally-challenged Quarian species.
Consuming the Wrong Food
To represent the myriad effects the variety of different foods might have on an individual and varying tolerances, this system implements a simple metric for processing food of the wrong Chirality; When a character attempts to digest food in their stomach of the wrong Chirality, instead of gaining Diet Points, they gain Toxin Points equal to the diet points the food would have provided. Toxin points do not impact the character's metabolism directly and so do not impact whether the character gains or loses weight, but are flushed from the metabolism along with diet points when diet calculations are done.
Toxin Buildup
The real danger in consuming opposite-chirality food and drink comes from allowing the toxins to build in your system. Most characters can handle a certain amount of this buildup without issue, experiencing no more harmful symptons than mild indigestion or intestinal discomfort. This limit for 'safely' processing Toxin Points is represented by your Toxin Limit, which is equal to your Constitution Modifier (minimum 1). A character's metabolism can handle this many Toxin Points in their system before they begin to see any adverse effects.
Each time a character gains an amount of Toxin Points above this limit, they must make an Eating check or Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + the number of Toxin Points in their metabolism pool). On a failure, they gain a level of exhaustion. They also gain the Poisoned condition, which lasts until they complete a Long Rest.
Purchasing the Right Food
Most places that see plenty of Galactic traffic will have businesses and stores that offer both Levo and Dextro-based food products, and they can usually be found for around the same price. In areas that see less diverse traffic or are more specific in their clientele, the food usually skews mostly or entirely to the appropriate chirality, and any food you can find of the opposite chirality might be more expensive by comparison. In most places, the common food will be Levo-based, but in Quarian or Turian-centric areas such as the Migrant Fleet or on Palaven, it will be Dextro-based. Products are usually clearly labeled, but not always.
Someone trying to identify whether an unlabeled food product is Dextro or Levo-based can make an Intelligence(Investigation) check with a DC of 12, correctly identifying the food's Chirality on a success.
Most people can immediately tell whether a food product is based in the wrong chirality once consumed, however, as either the taste will be off or it will sit poorly in the stomach. The DC for the Investigation check to recognize that you have just consumed wrong-chirality food is only 5.

Galaxy of Fatasses
Next, we need to assign the player characters of Mass Effect 5e some extra tools for interacting with the base rules of ED&D. This ranges from Fatty Abilities for the species, to archetypes for the classes that take advantage of these mechanics.
Fatty Abilities
Angara - Electrometabolism (Ancestral)
Angara have somewhat more control over their physiology than most races. During a long rest, an Angara can add or remove exercise points from their metabolism up to their proficiency bonus.
Asari - Charismatic Feeder (Cultural)
When you take the Force-Feeding Action, you can use your Charisma modifier with your Athletics proficiency rather than your Strength modifier for the roll.
Batarian - Competetive Eating (Cultural)
Whenever you roll to stuff yourself, the amount you increase your stomach capacity by increases by 1 pound for each ally you can see wtithin 30 feet (to a maximum of +5).
Drell - Reptilian Dormancy (Ancestral)
If you do not move on your turn, your can use your bonus action to instantly digest a number of pounds of food in your stomach up to your Proficiency bonus, adding them to your Diet points for the day and releasing a burst of gas that imposes disadvantage on attack rolls made by enemies within 5 feet of you until the start of your next turn. You can do this a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier, regaining expended uses at the end of a long rest.
Elcor - Durable Physiognomy (Ancestral)
You have resistance to damage caused by overeating.
Geth - Artificial Metabolism (Ancestral)
Geth can choose whether or not to do diet calculations at the end of each of their long rests. If they choose not to, any Diet and exercise points remain in their metabolism until they decide to do diet calculations at the end of a long rest.
Hanar - Levitation Assistance (Ancestral)
So long as your Contra-Gravitic Levitation racial feature is active, you may add your Wisdom modifier to your other attributes when determining your Bulk, Flex, and Inflation limits.
Human - Natural Glutton (Cultural)
Humans are culturally insatiable creatures, and take just as well to food as anything else. You have proficiency in the Eating skill.
Krogan - Voracious Predator (Ancestral)
As an Action, you can force a character with less hit points than your Character Level + your Constitution modifier to make a Strength Saving throw (DC 8 + your Proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier). On a failure, you swallow them whole.
A creature you swallow in this way begins suffocating and is blinded, restrained, and incapacitated while in your stomach, and the creature contributes 1/10th of its weight for the purpose of determining your fullness. If you fall to 0 hit points while you have a creature in your stomach, it is neither restrained nor incapacitated and can exit your body using 5 feet of movement, ending the blindness. If a creature falls to 0 hit points in your stomach, they turn into into an amount of Fatty food equal to 1/10th their total weight. Any edible items are immediately consumed with the creature, and activate their effects on you. Any inedible items are coughed up on your next short or long rest.
Once you use this feature, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
Prothean - Psychometric Hunger Sense (Ancestral)
A prothean's psychometric capacities allows them to read the metabolic states of others. As an action, you can touch another creature, immediately learning their current stomach capacity (if any) as well as how much food is in their stomach. Doing so also allows you to impart a sense of hunger into them, granting you advantage on Force-Feeding checks against them for the next minute. Once you use the second part of this feature on a creature, that creature is immune to that effect until the end of your next long rest.
Collector Variant - Hunger Spike (Ancestral)
Like everything else about the Collectors, their ability to sense and impart hunger has also been weaponized by the Reapers that created them. As an action, you can force a creature to make a Charisma saving throw (DC 8 + your Proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier). On a failure, they suffer the Ravenous condition for the next minute. They can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of their turns, ending the effect on a success.
Once you use this feature, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
Quarian - Gluttonous Augmentation (Ancestral)
You gain additional features based on your choice of Cybernetic Augmentation:
Cerebral. You have advantage on saving throws made to resist eating food involuntarily.
Muscular. You may add your Intelligence score to the other attributes used when calculating your Bulk, Flex, or Inflation limits.
Ocular. You can tell whether a given source of food is appropriate for your DNA type, whether it has any special effects on consumption (though not what those effects are), and whether it is slimming, normal, or fatty with sight alone.
Visceral. You may add your Intelligence modifier in addition to your Constitution modifier for Eating checks and to determine stomach capacity.
Post-Reaper War Quarians and the Hermetic Suit
Assuming your campaign follows the timeline of Mass Effect 3 in which the Quarians and Geth join forces against the Reapers, the Geth begin to upload themselves into Quarian suits in order to stimulate the improvement of their immune systems. Talk with your GM: Depending on when in the timeline your campaign takes place, your Quarian character might not suffer negative effects as a result of their suit being breached, and would simply lose the benefits it provides instead. This could be very helpful in a fatty campaign, where Quarians outgrowing their enviro-suits is a likely prospect.
Salarian - Hyperactive Digestion (Ancestral)
Salarians are able to digest twice the normal amount of food from their stomach each hour as a character normally would. Their base stomach capacity is also doubled.
Turian - Steel Spine (Ancestral)
Your movement speed is not reduced by being Impeded.
Volus - Impressive Capacity (Ancestral)
Volus count as one size larger than normal when determining Stomach capacity, but not exercise requirements or any other factors. (This means if you're using the normal rules where small and medium are essentially the same size, a Volus has the stomach capacity of a large creature, and if you are going with the variant where small creatures can eat less, they still have the capacity of a medium creature.)
Vorcha - Ravenous Eater (Cultural)
The amount of food you can eat in a single Eating action is doubled.

PART III
I Will Expand You!
Food Powers and Chirality
This document includes powers that allow the user to create food, either for sustaining themselves or for stuffing their enemies. Unless otherwise specified, all food created by a power is assumed to be Chirality-neutral, either created of non-aligned ingredients or adjusted with special treatments that make them digestible by both Chiralities of Enzymes. This is mostly for balance purposes, as assuming that any food created by a power matches the Chirality of the power user not only puts Turians and Quarians in more danger from other power users, but also makes them more dangerous to everyone else.
