The Waterdeep Commoner Genocide (Player)

Pitch

You are a member of a party of slightly above-average Waterdeep citizens. You are an aspiring adventurer who has recently heard a rumor that in order to gain power in this world, one merely has to kill indiscriminately — the easiest target being the paltry commoner.

Mission

Get to level 20 by only killing commoners and creatures that attack you, else survive for as long as possible within the confines of Waterdeep while fending off the City Guard and other pursurers of the soon-to-be most wanted individuals on the Sword Coast, perhaps in all of Faerun and even on Toril.

Rules

  1. You may not exit Waterdeep.
  2. You may only attack creatures in self-defense, other than commoners.
  3. XP will be recorded by the DM for all creatures that you kill as long as you abide by rules #1 and #2.

Character Creation

Make a 1st-level evil character using Point Buy or Standard Array. All races, classes, and subclasses are approved, including UA. If you want a homebrew race or class or subclass, please send it to me for approval first.

Note: if you decide to use a homebrew class/race/subclass, you will be responsible for putting into FoundryVTT. I will help of course, but the hefty majority of responsibility lies on you.

Level Milestones

At certain levels, you will be able to select 1 or more magic items. These level milestones are below:

  • Level 2: one uncommon or lower rarity magic item.
  • Level 4: one uncommon or lower rarity magic item.
  • Level 7: one uncommon or lower rarity magic item.
  • Level 10: one rare or lower rarity magic item.
  • Level 13: one rare or lower rarity magic item.
  • Level 16: one very rare or lower rarity magic item.
  • Level 18: two boons/charms/blessings.
  • Level 20: one legendary or lower rarity magic item.

Player Preparation

  1. Create at least 3 characters.
  2. Have their builds complete all the way to max level of the current tier. The Tiers of Play
  3. Select their items from the Level Milestones above so that you are ready immediately upon level up.

Wanted Level

Throughout your time in Waterdeep, committing crimes and being genocidal maniacs, the city guard will undoubtedly pursue you. The party's wanted level starts at 0 stars, just like in Grand Theft Auto and has a maximum of 6 stars.

Increasing Wanted Level

If you commit crimes and leave witnesses, your wanted level will increase by at least 1.

Decreasing Wanted Level

Only successfully absconding will result in your wanted level being set to 0, once again allowing you to freely roam the streets without worry of the long arm of the law.

Warnings

  1. This is a combat-heavy mini-campaign/one-shot.
  2. The combats can and will likely get VERY DEADLY.
  3. Depending on your wanted level, NPCs may kill your characters as soon as they get downed.
  4. Expect characters to die because an entire city is coming after you for committing genocide.
