Communion Discipline for Conduit
Summon and Command
All conduits draw energy from the world around them or from other planes, but only followers of the communion discipline are able to go one step further and call forth entire beings from those places. Instead of reaching for energy to take into themselves and use as they will, these conduits reach for allies to bring into the world through themselves to aid them with their tasks.
Subclass Features
Communing Magic
3rd-level Communion Discipline feature
You always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Communing Magic table. These spells count as conduit spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of conduit spells you prepare.
Whenever you gain a conduit level, you can replace one spell you gained from this feature with another spell of the same level. The new spell must be a conjuration spell, but can come from any spell list.
Communing Magic
| Conduit Level | Spell |
|---|---|
| 3rd | find familiar |
| 5th | healing spirit, summon beast |
| 9th | summon shadowspawn, summon undead |
| 13th | conjure minor elementals, find greater steed |
| 17th | infernal calling, summon celestial |
Geography of the Cosmos
3rd-level Communion Discipline feature
You pull monsters and friends from other planes as easily as air into your lungs, and are well-acquainted finding your way. You gain proficiency with cartographer's tools and always know which way is north.
Additionally, you can inscribe a permanent teleportation circle in a location by performing a one-hour ritual in that location every day for 1 week. The ritual requires you expend 50gp worth of materials, 1 use of your convert energy feature, and 1 spell slot of the highest level you can cast each day you perform it.
Living Portal
3rd-level Communion Discipline feature
You have learned to convert your body into a doorway through which your many allies can enter. Anytime you cast a spell gained through this discipline which would summon a creature or creatures that use a stat block, you can expend a number of uses of your convert energy feature equal to the spell's level to summon twice the number creatures allowed by that spell. If the spell requires concentration and you fail a saving throw to maintain concentration, half the creatures are dismissed (your choice). The remaining creatures are treated as if you succeeded the saving throw.
While you have multiple creatures summoned in this way, your speed is halved and you cannot benefit from any increase to your speed.
Additionally, you gain the following changes to the find familiar spell:
- When you cast the spell, you can choose one of the normal forms for your familiar or any tiny creature you have seen before with a challenge rating of up to half your proficiency bonus (rounded down).
- As a bonus action on your turn, you can command any familiars you have summoned to take the Attack action on their turn.
Universal Allure
7th-level Communion Discipline feature
Your time dealing with creatures from across the multiverse has made you unnaturally adept at communicating with beings from the most exotic planes. You are immune to being charmed or frightened, and have advantage on Charisma checks made to interact with creatures who are not on their home plane of existence.
Invigorated Army
14th-level Communion Discipline feature
Your summoned allies are emboldened through the energies you naturally channel through your body. When a creature you have summoned hits a creature with an attack roll, you can expend 2 uses of your convert energy feature to deal an additional 2d8 damage of any type which you have a chosen dynamic for.
Master of the Planes
18th-level Communion Discipline feature
You are now able to use your ability to reach through across the planes to transport even yourself and your allies. You can cast the teleport and plane shift spells each once without expending a spell slot. Once you have done so, you cannot do so again until you complete a long rest.
This subclass is meant for use with my homebrewed Conduit class, the document for which can be found here.
