Draktheran
ILDRAS LOOKED OUT OF THE CAVE HE CALLED
home onto the village below.
He longed to join society, but they could never accept him.
He tried once, but they panicked and ran as he approached, and as the lumbering dragonkin wondered through the empty streets, he saw that he was almost as tall as their houses. He would literally never fit in.
But Ildras was taken out of his self loathing as he heard the shifting of rocks below. The draktheran looked down at his feet as a small kobold seemed to be climbing up with an excited grin on their face.
Or maybe he could.
Dragon Centaurs?
There has been plenty of debate on exactly what the draktheran are and their origins.
Draktherans resemble a centaur made with the torso of a dragonborn and the lower body of a dragon. But that does little to explain the matter. Some scholars believe that they're some manner of hybrid, but seeing as centaurs aren't the result of a human and a horse cross-breeding this seems unlikely. Not to mention the existence of dragon-blooded sorcerers and half-dragons messing up that theory.
Misbegotten Children
Although true dragons begrudgingly acknowledge their relation to 'lesser' dragonkin, they seem to balk at the idea of the Drakthera.
True dragons are said to look down on them, regarding them as monstrosities, even their name can roughly translate into 'monster dragon' in the draconic tongue. Though others suspect that it is because of how much of a dragon they are, true dragons can't as easily brush them off as the rest of the 'lesser' dragonkin.
Solitary Existence
Drakthera often live separated from one another, save for when they reproduce. The reason is simple and is much the same as it is for true dragons, they are large predators.
Owing to their draconic nature, drakthera are primarily meat eaters. But with their aerial mastery and capable use of weapons even a single one can devastate a beast several times their size as such they could easily get enough food for several of their own kind by themselves. As such, larger populations of drakthera can easily depopulate a region of game causing problems for themselves and other inhabitants of the region.
Colored not for your Convenience
Like other dragonkin, such as kobolds or dragonborn, drakthera come in a multitude of colors, appearing in chromatic, metallic or even gemlike sheens.
But unlike dragonborn, and more like kobolds, their resemblance to their 'greater' kin is more superficial. Drakthera do breed strongly colored scales, and not muddied ones, but they lack the resistances and breath weapons of dragons and dragonborn.
Draktheran Traits
Your character shares the following traits with all Drakthera
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 3.
Age. Young drakthera walk hours after hatching. Their lower body reaches around the size of a fully grown horse by 16, and they are considered physically mature at 25. They live to be around 250.
Alignment. Drakthera eschew the dragons fixation on moral extremes. Each Draktheran is an individual, but their detachment from others often leads them towards neutral alignments.
Creature Type. You are a Monstrosity.
Size. Draktherans measure 7 to 9 feet long, 16 if you count their long whip-like tails and stand between 8 to 10 feet tall and weigh anywhere from 1,800 to 2,400 pounds. Your Size is Large.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 40 feet.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Draconic Anatomy. You can wear and use equipment designed for Medium creatures for your upper body and for Large creatures on your lower body.
In addition you have a fly speed of 30 feet, however, any climb that requires hands and feet is especially difficult for you because of your awkward bulk. When you make such a climb, each foot of movement costs you 4 extra feet, instead of the normal 1 extra foot.
You cannot climb or fly while a creature is mounting you.
Imposing Stature. Whenever you make a Charisma (Intimidation) check against a creature at least one size smaller than you, you are considered proficient in the Intimidation skill and add double your proficiency bonus to the check, instead of your normal proficiency bonus.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
| Race | Base Height | Height Modifier | Base Weight | Weight Modifier |
