Fighter Archetype: Dragonsoul

Whether through a draconic lineage, or a spooky ritual involving dragon blood, the Dragonsoul is a warrior who holds a fragment of draconic power within them, unleashing it to devastate their foes. They often serve as knights dedicated to draconic gods, or arise from humble origins at crucial times as mysterious-yet-convenient protagonists.

Ancient's Hide

3rd-level Dragonsoul feature.

Your power manifests in the form of toughened scales and/or flesh that can shrug off iron. You may treat your armour class as 13 + your Dexterity modifier if you are not wearing armour, or if your current armour provides a lower value. You may hold a shield and gain its benefit on top of this as normal.

Draconic Presence

3rd-level Dragonsoul feature.

As an action, you call upon your dragon blood to enshroud yourself in their intimidating presence. This transformation lasts for 1 minute, until you are incapacitated, or until you choose to end it as a free action. Once you have used this feature, you may not do so again until you have completed a short or long rest.

While transformed, you gain the following benefits:

  • You are immune to fear.
  • Once per turn, when you strike a creature with a weapon attack, you may force it to make a Wisdom saving throw, DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. On a failure, the creature is frightened by you until the start of your next turn.

From 18th level, you may undergo this transformation as a bonus action instead of an action.

Wyrm's Blood

7th-level Dragonsoul feature.

Choose a damage type from the following list: acid, cold, fire, force, lightning, necrotic, poison, psychic, radiant, or thunder. You gain resistance to that damage type.

While transformed by your Draconic Presence, your weapon attacks deal an additional 1d6 damage of that same type. This damage die increases to 1d8 at 10th level, 1d10 at 15th level, and 1d12 at 18th level.

Dragon Damage Types

Damage types are linked to particular draconic ancestries, and your aesthetic choices for Ancient’s Hide and Draconic Presence ought to reflect this. Acid is tied to black and copper; cold to silver and white; fire to brass, gold, and red; force to amethyst; lightning to blue and bronze; necrotic to topaz; poison to green; psychic to emerald; radiant to crystal; and thunder to sapphire.

Beneath the Surface

10th-level Dragonsoul feature.

You may now use your Draconic Presence feature twice between rests.

Darkened Skies

15th-level Dragonsoul feature.

While transformed by your Draconic Presence, you manifest a pair of spectral wings that grant you a flying speed of 50 feet.

Draconic Embrace

18th-level Dragonsoul feature.

While transformed by your Draconic Presence, you are immune to the damage type of your Wyrm’s Blood. When you would take damage of that type, you instead gain temporary hit points equal to 1d10 + your Constitution modifier.
