# Otherwordly Patron: Undead (Revised) ___ You’ve made a pact with an undead being that you believe exists beyond the bounds of life. For such entities time and mortality are often nothing more than fleeting thoughts. Some were once living mortals like you; such as the ever feared lich. Others are entities born not of life, but death; such as vampires. Ancient Undead such as these know firsthand the paths capable of leading the living towards the great treasure that is undeath. Most share this knowledge, along with other secrets, with a loyal few who are willing to work their will among the planes. ___ You choose your patron's kind or determine it randomly, using the Ancient Undead table. ___ ##### Ancient Undead | d4| Undead | Spell List |:---:|:---:| :---: | | 1 | Sanctified Spirit | Cleric | | 2 | Mummy Lord | Druid | | 3 | Lich| Wizard | | 4 | Vampire | Sorcerer | ___ #### Ancient Undead Spell List ___ *1st-Level Undead Patron feature* ___ Within the confines of your patron’s seemingly endless knowledge lays long forgotten eldritch magics; magics lost so long ago that even the most studious of warlocks would deem them impossible to cast. ___ When your Pact Magic or Mystic Arcanum features lets you learn or replace a warlock cantrip or a warlock spell of 1st level or higher, you can choose the new spell from the warlock spell list or your ancient undead spell list, as determined by the patron you chose from the ancient undead table. When you are transformed by your Harbinger of the Ancient Undead feature: you instead become immune to necrotic damage, and the charmed and frightened conditions. ___ In addition, when you would start your turn with 0 hit points the magic of your patron erupts forth, restoring 1 hit point to you, and granting you 1d10 + your warlock level temporary hit points. Despite this you have done the impossible, and managed to carve out some utterly minuscule semblance of respect in the gaze of your patron. ___ Your patron has deemed you worthy of one of the greatest gifts they can bestow: true undeath. You gain the following benefits. * Your creature type becomes undead. For the purposes of features like turn undead, destroy undead, and other similar effects; you have a challenge rating equal to your warlock level. * Unlike most lesser undead you are not soulless, and as such spells and effects that would normally not affect undead creatures, like cure wounds, can still affect you. * You are immune to the exhaustion condition. * You no longer age or suffer the frailties of old age. Your age cannot be altered, and you cannot die of old age. * If you would be revived by a spell or other effect, you are always revived as an undead creature: nothing short of the wish spell can ever return you to life as a non-undead creature. In the event that you are returned to life by the wish spell; you lose access to the embolden undeath feature until you are killed, and revived by either your herald the ancient undead feature or another non-wish spell or similar effect capable of reviving the dead. * So long as your head remains mostly intact you can survive were others would fall. Being decapitated, disemboweled, or otherwise dismembered is no longer fatal to you. During a short rest you can reattach severed limbs and organs, or replace lost limbs or organs by implanting similar parts from other creatures onto or into your own body: these parts must come from a creature(s) that is the same size category as you. The magics of your patron shape these new parts into a form that somewhat mirrors your original body. * Over the course of a long rest, if you entire body has been destroyed, but your head is still mostly intact; you can attach your head to the headless corpse of a deceased creature: this creature must be the same size as you, and must be fully intact sans its missing head. The magics of your patron will begin to shape the corpse into a form that somewhat mirrors of your original body. ___ The loss of mortality does not equate to the loss of morality. Becoming undead will not necessarily alter you alignment. This should be taken seriously by your player character, and may eventually lead to some changes within them. Perhaps your character might seek out knowledge with their timeless body, or they may wish to help and serve, or lead others as an eternal guardian. In time they might even become jaded or curious, and begin to experiment with less savory activities. ___ ### Optional Pact Boon ___ ##### Death's Gaze ___ So long as you can clearly see the face of a creature you know the following information about them: * You know their true name. You will be unable to see the true name of a creature that is aware of its importance unless: they are of a challenge rating less than or equal to your warlock level, reduced to 10 hit points or fewer, or you are already know what their true name is. * You know their hit point maximum, exactly how many hit points they currently have, if they are benefiting from temporary hit points, and exactly how many temporary hit points they currently have. * You know if they are suffering from any poison, disease, or curse. If said poison, disease, or curse has a common name you also become aware of it; you gain no insight as to the nature of the poison, disease, or curse beyond that. ___ This pact boon does not affect undead, soulless constructs, or those who serve an undead patron; yourself included. ___ ### Optional Eldritch Invocations ___ ##### Touch of True Death ___ ***Prerequisites.*** LV 18, Undead Patron ___ The effects of this invocation vary as determined by the patron you chose from the ancient undead table. ___ **Sanctified Spirit.** Radiant damage you inflict treats immunity to radiant damage as resistance. **Mummy Lord.** Acid damage you inflict treats immunity to acid damage as resistance. **Lich.** Necrotic damage you inflict treats immunity to necrotic damage as resistance. **Vampire.** Psychic damage you inflict treats immunity to psychic damage as resistance. ___ ##### Eternal Rebirth ___ ***Prerequisites.*** LV 15, Undead Patron ___ You can expand a use of your 8th or 9th level mystic arcanum to cast the clone spell. ___ If you are cloning yourself you can choose to forgo the normal material components, and instead use one cubic inch of your flesh, and an immaculate vessel capable of containing a medium sized creature worth at least 20,000 gp. Your patron will take in in this vessel and ensure it is safe against most dangers: only those who directly appose your patron, and your patron themselves may seek to harm it. ___ ##### Sight Unending ___ ***Prerequisites.*** LV 9, Undead Patron, Death's Gaze Boon ___ You gain immunity to the blinded condition.
