Barbarian

Only those who embraced the wild and primal ways of the rage could rightly call themselves a barbarian, imbuing them with a wild spirit not found among most warriors. Where civilized people emphasized what separated from them wild animals, barbarians took pride in their bestial nature and looked upon the tamer sensibilities of civilization with disdain. ~

Project

This project’s goals were to make an update to help low ranked subclasses to be closer to the middle or high ranked subclasses of the same class. Rather than focus only on game mechanics or personal views of a subclass, the goal was to keep the subclass balanced within the designer’s intent and to the creator’s original concept. Lore, story, previous editions, characters, etc. were included if that was the focus of the creator or if there was a lack of enough information to fill in the required comparisons.

Path of the Berserker

From Player's Handbook
For some barbarians, rage is a means to an end – that end being violence. The Path of the Berserker is a path of untrammeled fury, slick with blood. As you enter the berserker's rage, you thrill in the chaos of battle, heedless of your own health or well-being.

Comment on Changes:

Dealing with Frenzy, the exhaustion cost was too extreme, but there were some balancing issues without having a limit.

The limit of Constitution modifier or half the Proficiency Bonus did well on many tables, but for our main one we felt a ‘gentle’ scaling would be a fix more on the original concept. This, of course, is heavily based on the campaign and the type of player using it.

Frenzy

Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you can go into a frenzy when you rage. If you do so, for the duration of your rage you can ignore all effects from exhaustion and being incapacitated as a condition from Frenzy. You can make a single melee weapon attack with your ability modifiers as an addition to a bonus action on this turn or as a bonus action on each of your turns after this one while raging.

When your rage ends, you are incapacitated for one round, but you can still use Rage. Also, you have fatigue for four hours, which reduces your movement by half. If you use Rage while affected by fatigue, then when your rage ends, you are stunned for one minute and have fatigued for 1 extra hour. If you use Frenzy while affected by fatigue, then at the end of your rage, you gain one level of exhaustion.

Frenzy (Optional)

Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you can go into a frenzy when you rage. If you do so, for the duration of your rage you can make a single melee weapon attack with your ability modifiers as an addition to a bonus action on this turn or as a bonus action on each of your turns after this one while raging.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier and regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

(Optional Alternative)

You can use this feature a number of times equal to half of your Proficiency Bonus and regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Mindless Rage

Beginning at 6th level, you can't be charmed or frightened while raging. If you are charmed or frightened when you enter your rage, the effect is suspended for the duration of the rage. While raging, you have advantage on all saving throws from enchantment spells.

Intimidating Presence

Beginning at 10th level, you can use your Action to frighten someone with your menacing presence. When you do so, choose one creature that you can see within 30 feet of you. If the creature can see or hear you, it must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier OR your Strength modifier) or be frightened of you until the end of your next turn.

On subsequent turns, you can use your bonus action to extend the duration of this effect on the frightened creature until the end of your next turn. This effect ends if the creature ends its turn out of line of sight of you or ends its turn more than 60 feet away from you.

If the creature succeeds on its saving throw, you can't use this feature on that creature again for 24 hours.

Retaliation

Starting at 14th level, when you take damage from a creature that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to make a melee weapon attack against that creature. If you have disadvantage without advantage, then while raging, ignore the disadvantage on this attack.
