### Eye of Greed
##### Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement)
*This round, faceted stone was found crystallized in the tear duct of an ancient green dragon, and is said to bring rapacious fortune to its bearer.*
**_Grasping Whispers._**
While attuned to the Eye of Greed, you can speak, read, and write Draconic.
**_Draconic Avarice._**
When you speak this item's secret phrase and hold it up to one of your eyes, you can use it to cast *detect magic* without using a spell slot or spell components. When you cast *detect magic* in this way and look through the Eye of Greed, you can also see a faint golden aura around all individual objects of a value equal to or exceeding 50GP for the duration of the spell. This effect can penetrate most barriers, but it is blocked by 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt. When you use the Eye of Greed in this way, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
If you replace one of your eyes with the Eye of Greed, a dimly-glowing golden pupil manifests within the Eye, and you can still see as though you had both eyes. The Eye also gains the following two properties:
- **_Find it All._**
The **Draconic Avarice** property can be used twice before you must finish a long rest, and you gain the ability to cast *arcane eye* without using a spell slot or spell components. When you cast *arcane eye* in this way, you gain advantage on Wisdom (Perception) and Intelligence (Investigation) checks made to find personally or financially valuable items for the duration of the spell. When you use the Eye of Greed in this way, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
- **_Toxic Draft._**
You know and can cast the *poison spray* cantrip while attuned to the Eye of Greed. The DC for this spell is 8 + your proficiency bonus + your choice of modifier from Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma.
**_Cursed._** This item is cursed. You cannot willingly unattune from this item while cursed.
You become impulsively averse to spending money, except for on absolute necessities, and begin to covetously hoard material wealth. If a Wisdom (Perception) or Intelligence (Investigation) check made while using either the **Draconic Avarice** or **Find it All** features does not result in your acquisition of an item of personal or financial value, your hit point maximum decreases by 1d4, as your psyche roils from missing your quarry. If the curse reduces your hit point maximum to 0, you die, and your body turns to a mound of gold dust worth 150 GP x your character level, leaving the Eye intact atop the pile. The curse lasts until removed by the *remove curse* spell or similar magic.
If the curse has been removed, the Eye of Greed loses all unique properties. It becomes a mundane, cut emerald worth 1,000GP, and no longer functions as an eye.
