Subtlety, confusion, and deception, the Agent employs these tools as other Artificers use screws and hammers. Whether you are a government goon, guild operative, rebellious saboteur, or freelance thief, you use a combination of gadgets and training to accomplish tasks too delicate for the common brute; but your not above a little wet work as the Agent is still capable of eliminating high-value targets.

Tools of the Trade

When you become an Agent at level 3, you gain proficiency in the Stealth skill, and your proficiency bonus is doubled for checks using that skill. Additionally, you are proficient with hand crossbows, rapiers, scimitars, and shortswords.

Agent Spells

You always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the table below. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Artificer level Agent Spells
3rd hunter's mark, fog cloud
5th borrowed knowledge, pass without trace
9th gaseous form, sending
13th arcane eye, greater invisibility
17th contact other plane, steel wind strike

Tradecraft

At 3rd level, you utilize gadgets and your prowess to pull off feats of subtlety and skill. A number of times per short rest equal to your proficiency bonus, you may use one of the following gadgets before the end of your turn:

  • Reflex Maximizer: Take or plant an item on a humanoid or perform the Hide, Search, or Use an Object action as a bonus action.
  • Corporeal Repositioner: Teleport up to 15 feet to an unoccupied space you can see.
  • Perception Filter: When you cast a spell, you can cast it without any somatic or verbal components.

Wet Work

Also at 3rd level, you do some of your best work in the shadows. Once on each of your turns, if you take the attack action against a creature that cannot see you or if you are rolling with advantage, you can use Intelligence for the attack and damage rolls instead of Strength or Dexterity. When you hit a creature in this way, the target takes takes extra force damage equal to 1d6 + your Artificer level.

Infiltration Expert

Starting at 5th level, you see opportunities others might miss and say the words others want to hear. A number of times per short rest equal to your proficiency bonus, you may decide to roll with advantage prior to making an Intelligence (Investigation), Wisdom (Perception), or Charisma (Deception) ability check.

Additionally, you learn the spell alter self and may cast it once per long rest without using a spell slot.

Activating Assets

At 9th level, you always know someone on the inside, a plant or mole. Before making a Charisma check while interacting with a creature that speaks at least one language, you may instead use your reaction to make an ability check using your spellcasting ability. If you succeed on the roll, you say a code phrase that the creature instantly recognizes, even if you do not share a language. For the next hour, the creature regards you as a friendly acquaintances and will attempt to aid you as best they can, with information or action, however the target's highest goal is to keep their cover and not let other's know they have helped you.

This feature fails if used against a creature that has an Intelligence or Wisdom score below 4, is a construct or undead, is currently charmed, or the DM determines that the creature's status would not allow them to be undercover. You may not attempt this on a specific creature more than once every 7 days. Once this feature is used successfully, it may not be used again until you finish a short rest.

Escape Plan

At 15th level, you are prepared to make a quick exit. Over the course of a minute, you invisibily mark the area at your feet, this is your Extraction Point until you designate a new spot. As an action, you and up to 6 other creatures you can see within 30 feet teleport to the Extraction Point if it is within 10 miles. An unwilling creature must succeed on a Charisma saving throw to avoid being teleported.
