You use a Harrow deck to tell a fortune. As part of this spell, you perform a Harrowing and must describe one set of events or course of action that the target of the spell intends to undertake during the spell's duration.
Draw nine cards from the Harrow deck when this spell is cast. Record the ability score and alignment associated with each card. Depending on the card's alignment and their placement within the reading, they either provide bonuses or penalties to take place within the duration of this spell.
- True Match A card that has the same alignment as its position in the reading is a true match and grants the target of this spell a Hero Point that can be used for anything, so long as it is to further their stated goal made at the casting of this spell. If there are multiple true matches, the target of the spell can only gain a single Hero Point.
- Partial Match A card whose alignment only matches either the row or column it is placed in, but not both, is a partial match. The target gains a bonus to the associated check on the card, see the chart below. When they roll a success for that check, they can choose to get a critical success instead. They can use this bonus only once per partial match. If there are multiple partial matches, the target of the spell can gain as many of them as there are partial matches.
- No Match A card that shares no alignment traits with the row and column it is placed in offers no bonuses or penalties.
- Opposite Match A card whose alignment is placed in its opposed place in the spread, see chart below, imposes grave tidings upon the target of this spell. During the effect's duration, the first time the target rolls an associated check on the card, and fails the check, they get a critical failure instead. This only happens if they are working towards their stated goal made at the casting of this spell, based on the Game Master's discretion. If there are multiple opposite matches, the target of the spell gains all of them.
Any bonuses or penalties not used by the end of the spell's duration are wasted. The target of this spell is temporarily immune to repeated castings of this spell for 1 week.
