VINDICATOR TECHNIQUE

Across history, there have been those who live to hunt the wielders of the Force, be they Jedi or Sith. Followers of the Vindicator Technique combine technology with knowledge of Force techniques to track down and eliminate Force-wielders. For those practitioners of the Force, they are the greatest adversary.

FORCECASTING SECRETS

Vindicator Technique: 3rd, 5th, 9th, 13th, and 17th level

You have learned secrets from a subtle attunement to the Force. Choose two force powers of no higher level than your Max Power Level, as shown in the scout table. The chosen powers count as tech powers for you, and you do not need to know any listed prerequisite powers to learn them, but they are not included in the number in the Powers Known column of the scout table.

You learn two additional powers at 5th, 9th, 13th, and 17th level. Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can choose one of the force powers you know and replace it with another force power of no higher level than your Max Power Level.

MARK OF THE VINDICATOR

Vindicator Technique: 3rd, 11th, and 17th level

When the target of your Ranger’s Quarry feature is within 30 feet of you, you gain the following benefits:

  • Whenever the creature casts a force power, it must first succeed on a Constitution saving throw against your tech save DC to maintain concentration. On a failed save, the casting is disrupted, the force power fails, and the force points are wasted.
  • Whenever the creature starts its turn while concentrating on a force power, it must make a Constitution saving throw against your tech save DC to maintain concentration. On a failed save, it loses concentration on the power.
  • When you deal damage to the creature with an attack or power, you can spend 1 tech point to roll your Ranger's Quarry die and deal additional force or psychic damage to it.

The radius of this feature increases to 60 feet at 11th level and 120 feet at 17th level.

SENSE FORCE

Vindicator Technique: 7th level

You can use your action to gain the benefits of the force sight force power until the end of your next turn.

You can use this feature three times. You gain an additional use at 9th, 13th, and 17th level. You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

FORCE RESISTANCE

Vindicator Technique: 11th and 17th level

While the target of your Ranger’s Quarry feature is within 60 feet of you, you gain the following benefits:

  • You have advantage on saving throws against force powers they cast.
  • You have resistance to damage dealt by force powers they cast.

The radius of this feature increases to 120 feet at 17th level.

VINDICATOR’S WRATH

Vindicator Technique: 15th and 17th level

You can cast the force suppression and sever force force powers at 3rd level against the target of your Ranger’s Quarry without expending tech points. If they are within 60 feet of you, you have advantage on the forcecasting ability check for these powers.

You can use this feature five times. You gain an additional use at 17th level. You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

The radius of this feature increases to 120 feet at 17th level.

Additionally, when your Mark of the Vindicator feature deals damage to a creature, you can also deal damage to a different creature of your choice that you can see within 30 feet of it. The second creature takes force or psychic damage equal to your Ranger's Quarry die.

CHANGELOG

Differences From Inquisitor

This archetype revision has some differences from the currently existing Inquisitor archetype that may not be readily apparent. These changes are summarized below.

  • The name has changed. Inquisitor, from the beginning, has been said to not actually resemble what an Inquisitor in lore (Canon or Legends) would be. This is despite its name, and its artwork being that of an Inquisitor. Deb is currently working on a Path of the Inquisitor sentinel archetype that would fit that flavor better, while this would be more of a Jedi-hunting special agent.
  • Every mention of Inquisitor in the ability names has been changed to Vindicator, but their effects are not changed unless stated below.
  • Forcecasting Secrets has been given the same clarification as in Artificer Engineering 2.0 that force powers learned through it do not need prerequisite powers to be learned. This is already technically RAW, but is very easy to miss or misinterpret, so a small line was added for clarity.
  • Mark of the Vindicator has a new psychic/force damage effect.
  • Vindicator's Wrath extends Mark of the Vindicator's new damage to a second target.
  • All distances for features involving Ranger's Quarry have been doubled. (Maximum distance used to be 60 feet, it is now 120 feet.)

Note: Needs new artwork.
