Circle of Guardians

Druids of the Circle of Guardians are sworn protectors of the primeval world. They dedicate their lives on understanding and safeguarding the secrets of the deep woods that cradle ancient druidic magic. These druids have learned to invoke the blessings of the forests, transforming into imposing arboreal warriors whose strength and resilience are matched only by the majesty of the trees they protect.

Circle Spells

Your bond with the natural world have granted you access to certain spells. At 2nd level, you learn the shillelagh cantrip.

At 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th level you gain access to the spells listed for that level in the Circle of Guardians Spells table. Once you gain access to one of these spells, you always have it prepared, and it doesn't count against the number of spells you can prepare each day. If you gain access to a spell that doesn't appear on the druid spell list, the spell is nonetheless a druid spell for you.

Circle of Guardians Spells
Druid Level Spells
2nd compelled duel, ensnaring strike
3rd spike growth, warding bond
5th aura of vitality, plant growth
7th aura of life, guardian of nature
9th tree stride, wrath of nature

Arboreal Protector

Starting at 2nd level, you gain proficiency with simple and martial weapons. Additionally, when you cast shillelagh, you can use it to imbue any one or two, simple or martial melee weapons you’re holding.

Also, you may choose to use the weapon's normal damage die or the one granted by the spell. Finally, you can use any weapon under the effects of shillelagh as a spellcasting focus for your spells.

Guardian Form

At 2nd level, the ancient forests have granted you the ability to transform into a powerful guardian. As a bonus action, you can expend a use of your Wild Shape feature to take on a guardian form instead of transforming into a beast.

While in your guardian form, you retain your game statistics, but you take on a tree-like form; your body becomes covered in regenerating bark, overgrown with flora and vestured with powerful vines. Whenever you assume your guardian form, you gain the following benefits:

  • When you activate this form and at the start of each of your turns, you gain 4 temporary hit points. These temporary hit points increase at certain Druid levels: to 6 at 6th level, 8 at 10th level, and 10 at 14th level.
  • You can cast shillelagh as part of the same bonus action used to activate your guardian form.
  • While in this form, your bark-covered limbs count as melee weapons for the purposes of the shillelagh cantrip.
  • You gain a bonus to any Strength check or saving throw equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of +1).

The temporary hit points granted by this feature fade when your guardian form ends. This form lasts for 10 minutes. It ends early if you dismiss it (no action required), are incapacitated, die, or use this feature again.

Extra Attack

Starting at 6th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, when you take the Attack action on your turn. Moreover, you can cast one of your cantrips in place of one of those attacks.

Warding Roots

Beginning at 10th level, you can extend your primal blessings to protect your allies. When any ally starts their turn within 30 feet of your Guardian Form, that ally also gains the temporary hit points granted by your Guardian Form.

While Guardian Form lasts, you and any allies that have been granted temporary hit points from your Guardian Form can ignore the damage and negative effects (such as difficult terrain or being restrained) from spells you cast that magically create or manipulate plants, such as those created by the entangle or spike growth spells.

In addition, you gain a bonus to any Constitution saving throw you make to maintain your concentration on a spell. The bonus equals your Wisdom modifier (minimum of +1).

Primeval Champion

By 14th level, your guardian form starts to resemble treants, the grove guardians of old. When you activate your Guardian Form, you can grow by one size category, from Medium to Large, for example. Additionally, while in your Guardian Form you are resistant to all bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.

Finally, you gain the ability to twist and turn the ground beneath you. While in your Guardian Form, the ground within 30 feet of you is difficult terrain for your enemies.
