# Sun Soul Monk Revision: Way of the Radiant Dawn ## The Radiant Dawn The Monks that follow the Way of the Radiant Dawn reach towards enlightenment under the weight of the sun, imbuing their natural Ki with the properties of Sunlight. This energy is transferred into bolts of light sent to eradicate the dark ignorance likened to the cycle of the everlasting Sun. ### Radiant Soul Beginning when you pick this Monastery Tradition at 3rd level, you may spend a Ki point to become wreathed in Sunlight that extends in a 10-foot radius around you, with an additional 10 feet of dim light at will. While in this light you have advantage on perception checks based on sight as well as Blindsight equal to the radius of the aura created from this ability. This aura lasts 10 minutes unless a bonus action is used to end it earlier. Doing so replenishes a number of ki points equal to your Wisdom Modifier once per short rest. A long rest resets the available uses as well. This cannot be used to exceed the maximum ki points you can have at one time. ### Radiant Bolt Also when you take this Monastery Tradition at 3rd level, you gain the ability to replace any of your unarmed strikes with a Radiant Bolt. If you do so, make a ranged spell attack adding your Wisdom Modifier to the attack and damage rolls as a beam of light erupts from you. You are considered Proficient with this attack, which has a range of 30 feet. The damage is radiant and equal to a roll of your Martial arts die. If a creature hit by this attack is within the radius of your Radiant Soul ability, that creature has disadvantage on checks made to maintain concentration until the start of its next turn. ### Solar Flash When you reach 6th level in this subclass you learn how to focus your light into harmful radiation. As a bonus action, you may deal 2d6 radiant damage to each creature in a cone that extends 15 feet from you. This damage increases to 4d6 at 9th level, 5d6 at 13th, and 6d6 at 17th level. If a creature is within the Sunlight of your Radiant Soul when it is hit by this ability it must succeed a Dexterity Saving Throw or be blinded until the start of your next turn. The save for this is made against your Ki Save DC. This ability may be used a number of times equal to your Proficiency bonus per long rest (min. of 1). This limitation may be surpassed by spending 2 Ki points per use. \columnbreak ### Brilliant Nova At 11th level, you gain the ability to mold light to your will, allowing you to create an explosive orb of light as an action with a range of 150 feet. This orb explodes with a radius of 20 feet, forcing each creature within that radius to make a Dexterity Saving Throw or take 4d6 radiant damage and become blinded until the start of its next turn. Upon a successful save a creature takes half damage and is not blinded. The save for this is made against your Ki Save DC. A creature behind total cover that is opaque cannot be blinded by this ability. ### Dawn's Shield At 17th level, you become the beacon of light for all, magnifying the light of your Radiant Soul. Creatures that start their turn within the light of your Radiant Soul take radiant damage equal to twice your Proficiency Bonus, and creatures cannot use reactions while within your light. Creatures blinded by you have their speeds reduced to half while they are blinded. You may spend 1 ki point as an action to gain the effect of the Fly spell. As a reaction you may spend 3 ki points to cause a number of creatures within 20 feet of you up to your Wisdom Modifier to gain a number of Temporary Hit Points equal to your Monk level. ## Remarks [Way of the Sun Soul](http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/monk:sun-soul) This is the original subclass this revision is based on. This revision was meant to give the monk more utility and control of a battlefield, while allowing the subclass to function more independently of Ki reserves, allowing a monk to be a monk and have benefits. The intent was not to overpower the subclass but to make use of it with a unique set of abilities tied to the original theme of the subclass. It now has the thematic ability to blind enemies, and it has the ability to disrupt concentration which should allow the earlier abilities to remain relevant in later levels.
