Ranger Archetype: Bounty Hunter

Hunting is your job. Your quarry? Anything that pays. Bounty hunters specialize in tracking down hard to find targets and either kill them, or bring them in alive. Depending on the terms of the contract.

As you develop your skills, you will find it easier to track your targets over large areas and periods of time, and get better at taking them down.

Bounty Hunting Magic

Starting at 3rd level, you learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Bounty Hunter Spells table. The spell counts as a ranger spell for you, but it doesn't count against the number of ranger spells you know.

13th Greater Invisibility

Seek Hidden

At 3rd level, you gain the ability to magically sense the presence of a specific creature within 1 mile of you. As an action, you pick a creature whose given name and appearance are known to you. It must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, you know the distance and direction that creature is from you at the time you use this ability. On a successful save, the creature senses that something tried to use magic to locate it.

If the chosen creature is not within range or is protected from divination magic, this spell fails.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Hunt Target

Starting at 7th level, once you single out a target, nothing stops you from reaching them. After you successfully use your Seek Hidden feature, all Ability checks you make, before your next short or long rest, to find or conceal yourself from the target of that feature are rolled with advantage.

Persistent Hunting

Starting at 11th level, if you make two weapon attacks against the same creature with the Attack action in the same turn, you can make another weapon attack as part of the same action, you may make a third weapon attack against the same creature.

Hem In

By 15th level, you've learned to use your magic to cut off your target's escape. When you hit a creature with a ranged weapon attack, you may use your bonus action to teleport yourself to an open space within 5 feet of the creature.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once). You regain all expended uses of it when you finish a long rest.

Optional Class Feature

You gain class features in the Player's Handbook when you reach certain levels in your class. This section offers an additional feature that you can gain as a ranger. Unlike the features in the Player's Handbook, you don't gain the feature here automatically. Consulting with your DM, you decide whether to gain the feature in this section if you meet the level requirement noted in the feature's description.

If you take this feature, you gain no benefit from Favored Enemy and don't qualify for anything in the game that requires it.

Study Target

1st-level ranger feature, which replaces the Favored Enemy feature and works with the Foe Slayer feature

As a bonus action, you observe the mannerisms and defenses of a creature within 60 feet. For the next hour, you add a 1d4 to all weapon damage rolls and opposed Ability checks made against the creature.

Before this feature ends, you can choose to study another creature within range, giving you the benefits of this ability against the new target instead.

You can use this feature to study a creature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

The size of this feature's die increases when you reach certain levels in this class: to 1d6 at 5th level, to 1d8 at 11th level, and to 1d10 at 17th level.
