\pagebreak ## Oath of the Eightfold ____ The Oath of the Eightfold is taken by paladins who seek improvement with their body and mind. By other names they can be known as sohei or warrior monks. They train not as individuals but as a brotherhood, a monastic order of understanding. In combat, they are known for being militant, as well as retaining composure on the battlefield. #### Tenets of the Eightfold The tenets of the Oath of the Eightfold walk a paladin on their journey through life and death. ***Experience Life.*** Your life carries an importance, to learn about what life is to you and what you are to life. ***Logic and Focus.*** Keep your thoughts clear, doing so allows your wisdom to guide your actions. ***Together Strong.*** You do not act alone, your strength lies within your bonds. ***Path of Peace.*** A lifelong dedication that you practice, your understanding of the other tenets grant you peace amongst the turmoil around you and within yourself. | Paladin Level | Feature | |:--:|:--| | 3rd | Eightfold Oath Spells, Channel Divinity | | 7th | Law of Karma | | 15th | Illuminated Mind | | 20th | Enlightenment beyond Death | ### Eightfold Oath Spells At 3rd level, you learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Oath of the Eightfold Spells table. Each of these spells are always prepared and count as a paladin spell for you, but doesn’t count against the number of paladin spells you can prepare at one time. ##### Oath of the Eightfold Spells | Paladin Level | Spell | |:--:|:--| | 3rd | *mage armor*, *purify food and drink* | | 5th | *calm emotions*, *warding bond* | | 9th | *conjure barrage*, *intellect fortress* | | 13th | *death ward*, *stoneskin* | | 17th | *greater restoration*, *steel wind strike* | ### Channel Divinity At 3rd level, you gain the following Channel Divinity options: - ***Guiding Strike.*** You can use your Channel Divinity to teach and direct your allies with their attacks. When you hit with a weapon attack, you can choose an ally within 10 feet of you that you can see. The chosen ally can use its reaction to make one weapon attack with a bonus to the attack roll equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of +1). - ***Divine Perseverance.*** You can use your Channel Divinity to gain the inner strength to accomplish various tasks. For 10 minutes, you can roll a d8 when making an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw and add the result to the d20 roll. ### Law of Karma At 7th level, as a reaction, when you or an ally within 15 feet of you takes damage, the attacked creature’s next damage roll deals additional damage equal to half of the damage taken, to a maximum equal to your paladin level, back to the attacker. In addition, when you target a creature or are a target of a spell or feature that restore hit points, you or the caster of the spell regain a number of hit points equal to a third of the hit points restored (rounded down). When you reach 18th level, the hit points restored by this feature is half of the points restored (rounded down), instead of a third. ### Illuminated Mind At 15th level, you are always under the effects of the *see invisibility* spell, and you gain resistance to psychic damage. ### Enlightenment beyond Death At 20th level, your divine understanding grants you the fortitude to ward off even death. If you are reduced to 0 hit points, but not killed outright, you can delay falling unconscious, and you can immediately take an extra turn, interrupting the current turn. While you have 0 hit points during that extra turn, taking damage causes death saving throw failures as normal, and three death saving throw failures can still kill you. When the extra turn ends, you fall unconscious if you still have 0 hit points. Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest or expend a 5th-level spell slot.

Inspired by the many works of the subclass of similiar themes
- 5.30.22: Version 1 -- **Benkei**
(the front image shown is of the character Benkei, a historical figure that was also a warrior monk. He was famed for his strength, and origin of the trope where the character dies while standing firm)
-- **Law of Karma**
(meant to boost damage when damage is taken, and reward healers when healing)
-- **Illuminated Mind**
(while not combat orientated, something to offer an elightened individual to see past things)
-- **Enlightenment beyond Death**
(relative to the samurai, something to allow you to stand firm at the face of death)
