

Hellfire oni
Hellfire oni are the infernal counterparts to their demonic relative, the dread oni. Whereas dread oni are corrupted by exposure to the chaotic magic of the Abyss, hellfire oni are typically granted their unique abilities through contracts with powerful devils in the Nine Hells.
Infernal Form
At first glance, hellfire oni are often confused to be large devils since many of these oni sport crimson red skin, and devilish horns. Although most oni have the ability to magically propel themselves through the air, some hellfire oni have even been known to sprout a pair of bat-like wings. Because of their characteristics, many adventurers confuse them for fiends, using special magics and weapons designed to specifically counter them; unfortunately, only to find that they have no effect against the oni.
Agents of the Hells
Since the source of their infernal power comes from their devilish contract, hellfire oni typically maintain some level of allegiance or fealty to the Nine Hells. Although the hellfire oni typically have the autonomy to pursue its own personal agendas and goals, they often have been known to carry out missions on behalf of their infernal patrons due to their influence on the Material Plane. Because of this, hellfire oni have often been known as the source of infernal incursions as well as secret conspirators for many devilish cults.
Burning Fearmongers
Like the rest of their kin, the hellfire oni's power is fueled by the fear of their enemies. Thanks to its newly granted infernal power, the hellfire oni has the unique ability to literally use their target's fear as the source of their magic. Creatures who tremble before its nightmarish presence are instantly consumed in the very fires of hell. The only way to extinguish these flames is to overcome one's own terror.
Battle Tactics
In general, hellfire oni are extremely aggressive and somewhat reckless fighters, especially when it senses fear in its opponents. In combat, the hellfire oni typically prioritizes those frightened by it. Thanks to their blazing charge, the hellfire oni can quickly cover a lot of ground with ease to obliterate its opponents under a flurry of hellish strikes with its mace. Unlike their other kin, their fighting style is less of horrifying game of cat and mouse; but rather a brutal rampage of carnage, fueled by each opponent that succumbs to either its horrific presence or falls to its brutal blows.
Despite its brutish tactics, the hellfire oni is quite proficient in using Infernal magics using hellfire to immolate large numbers of opponents at a time. If the situation requires it, the hellfire oni has the capability of calling devils to come to its aid. The oni typically only resorts to summoning these creatures if the fight seems unwinnable or if it has an alternative goal other than its brutal hunts.

Brutality When the hellfire oni deals a critical hit or reduces a creature to 0 hitpoints, creatures of the hellfire oni's choice within 10ft. of it must succeed a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened by the hellfire oni until the end of its next turn.
Blazing Terror Creatures frightened by the hellfire oni are immediately set ablaze with spectral flames and give off dim light in a 10ft. radius. Creatures frightened in this manner take 9(2d8) fire damage at the start of each of its turns as long as that creature can see the hellfire oni.
Fearmonger When the hellfire oni takes the Attack action against a creature that is frightened, the hellfire oni can make one additional attack with its Hellfire Mace
Blazing Charge If the hellfire oni moves at least 20ft. and hits a creature with its Hellfire Mace on the same turn, the target takes an additional 9(2d8) fire damage.
Frightful Presence Any creature within 30 feet of the hellfire oni must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw, unless the hellfire oni is incapacitated. On a failed save, the creature is frightened until the start of its next turn. If a creature's saving throw is successful, the creature is immune to the hellfire oni's Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.
Magic Weapons The hellfire oni's weapon attacks are magical.
Regeneration The hellfire oni regains 10 hitpoints at the start of its turn if it has at least one hitpoint. If the hellfire oni takes radiant damage, this trait doesn't function at the start of the hellfire oni's next turn.
Innate Spellcasting
The hellfire oni's innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 17). The hellfire oni can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

Actions
Multiattack. The hellfire oni makes two attacks with its Hellfire Mace
Hellfire Mace. Melee Weapon Attack +8 to hit, reach 10ft., one target, Hit 11(2d6+4) bludgeoning damage +7(2d6)piercing damage. If the target is frightened, it takes an additional 9(2d8) necrotic damage
Change Shape The hellfire oni can magically polymorph into a Small or Medium humanoid, into a Large giant, or back to its true form. Other than its size, its statistics remain the same in each form. If the hellfire oni dies, it reverts to its true form. Its weapons and gear can transform to match its appropriate size.
Hellfire Breath(Recharge 5-6) The hellfire oni can unleash a fiery breath in a 30ft. cone centered on itself. Creatures within range must succeed a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed saving throw, creatures take 36(8d8) fire damage and half as much on a successful saving throw. Frightened creatures have disadvantage on this saving throw.
Bonus Actions
Aggressive The hellfire oni can use its bonus action to move up to its movement speed towards a hostile creature it can see. It can only use this movement to move closer to a hostile creature
Reactions
Rampage If the hellfire oni reduces a creature to 0 hitpoints, the hellfire oni can move up to half its movement speed and make a weapon attack against a creature a creature within range.
