Sorcerous Origin

Blade Soul

An indomitable force of spirit, of combative nature has forged your body into a perfect harbringer of might and magic. This power arises from some primordial place of brutality, violence, or aggression. You, or someone from your lineage, might have inherited the spirit of violence, which comes in the form of an actual weapon of magical power which you can draw upon to display feats of strength or spellcraft, appearing from your body with a flash of brilliant arcane energy. Is this weapon a tool for righting wrongs, to protect the weak who could not fight for themselves? Or is this weapon your implement for slaughter and selfishness, honing your strength to remain powerful, and power-hungry?

Bladesoul Origins

d6 Origin
1 You were born near a battlefield, where spellbattles were fought and soldiers were killed. Dreams bring you back to that place when it was active, and you fight sleeping until you awake.
2 Your parents were trained spellblades, and you were born with a supernatural capacity to spell and blade.
3 Your bladesoul is a manifestation of your soul, and while magic has never been your practice, it comes very easily to you as does the will to fight.
4 In a moment of desperation, your bladesoul manifested, and it only comes to you during times of need.
5 An artificer conducted a terrible experiment, combining the essence of a magical weapon with a unwilling test subject---you.
6 A powerful being granted you the ability to draw upon your bladesoul to best your enemies. Only did you realize that once it left you with this knowledge, that you could never stop seeking enemies to best or else you will lose the magic that gives you your power, afraid to become weak ever again.

Blade Magic

1st-Level Bladesoul feature

You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Blade Spells table. Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn't count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.

Whenever you gain a sorcerer level, you can replace one spell you gained from this feature with another spell of the same level. The new spell must be an abjuration or a evocation spell from the sorcerer, warlock, or wizard spell list.

Blade Spells

Sorcerer Level Spells
1st compelled duel, zephyr strike
3rd cloud of daggers, spiritual weapon
5th blink, haste
7th fire shield, Raulothim's psychic lance
9th animate objects, steel wind strike

Bladesoul Bond

1st-Level Bladesoul feature

You have bonded with a magical slashing weapon which is considered your Bladesoul. As a bonus action, you may summon this weapon to your hand. You may choose the appearance of the summoned Bladesoul, but it counts as a simple melee weapon that you are proficient with. It deals 1d10 Slashing damage on a hit and has the finesse, light, and thrown properties (range 60). This damage is considered magical. Furthermore, you can use your Bladesoul as your spellcasting focus. You can dismiss your Bladesoul as a bonus action, making it disappear. If you drop your weapon or throw it, it dissipates at the end of your turn.

Spirited Soulstrike

1st-Level Bladesoul feature

Your magical strength drawn upon the bladesoul within you allows you to draw it with flowing arcane power. As part of the bonus action you take to draw the weapon to your hand, or as a bonus action whenever you are wielding it, you can soulstrike your target, dealing an additional 1d10 force damage to the next target you hit on an attack with your bladesoul, and gaining Temporary Hit Points equal to twice your Sorcerer Level.

Additionally, you gain a bonus to your AC equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of +1) for 1 minute, which ends early if you don medium or heavy armor or a shield, or if you are knocked unconscious or die.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

At Higher Levels, the damage you deal with Soulstrike increases to 2d10 at 5th, 3d10 at 11th, and 4d10 at 17th.

Extra Attack

6th-Level Bladesoul feature

You can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. Moreover, you can cast one of your cantrips in place of one of those attacks.

Bladesoul Siphon

6th-Level Bladesoul feature

You can absorb the magical properties of one magical melee weapon into your Bladesoul by performing a 1 hour ritual while you hold the weapon. Your Bladesoul gains all magical properties of said weapon, but retains its own shape (e.g. a +1 is a magical property, reach is not). The absorbed weapon loses all magic properties until your Bladesoul absorbs the magic of another weapon. Your Bladesoul can only retain the magical properties of one weapon at a time.

Awakened Bladesoul

14th-Level Bladesoul feature

You gain the ability to heighten, or "awaken" your soul and spirit to harness the true aspects of conflict. As a bonus action, or as part of your Soulstrike feature, you can enter this state for 1 minute. For the duration, you gain the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • Attacks with your Bladesoul score critical hits on the roll of a 19-20, and deal damage dice three times, instead of twice.
  • Whenever you take the attack action during your turn, you can cast a spell of 1st-Level or Higher with a casting time of 1 action in place of casting a cantrip.

Once you use this bonus action, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest, unless you spend 5 sorcery points to use it again.

Blade Soul Storm

18th-Level Bladesoul feature

You can unleash your magical strength with a display of a force of destruction. As an action, you can move up to your speed without provoking opportunity attacks and make one attack against each creature that enters your reach. On hit(s), this attack deals your additional Soulstrike damage.

Once you use this action, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest, unless you spend 9 sorcery points to use it again.
