Monk: Way of Heavenly Wrath

Throughout the ages, lightning has been viewed in awe, fear- even envy. Often seen as the domain of the gods, able to split the skies themselves, many have sought to harness and wield it, whether for good or evil. Monks that follow the Way of Heavenly Wrath are such individuals. Drilling under crashing storms and meditating to choirs of thunder, you have attuned your ki to the earth-shaking wrath of lightning. You can move as lightning, a flashing blur, and strike like a bolt from the blue.

Heavenly Steps

3rd-level Way of Heavenly Wrath feature
You manifest your ki as lightning. At the start of your turn, you can enact your Heavenly Steps and gain the following benefits:

  • The bonus speed from your Unarmored Movement feature is doubled.
  • Your movement doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks.
  • When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike or monk weapon, the attack deals bonus lightning damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die. A creature can take this damage only once per turn.

Your Heavenly Steps lasts for 1 minute, until you are incapacitated, or end it early as a bonus action. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest, or you spend 3 ki points to use it again.

Skyward Gong

6th-level Way of Heavenly Wrath feature
As you stride across the battlefield and build momentum you can release bursts of thunder. Once on your turn, if you have moved at least 40 feet without entering a space more than twice, you can force each creature within 10 feet of you to make a Dexterity saving throw. Roll your Martial Arts die a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. On a failed save, a creature takes thunder damage equal to the number rolled, and is pushed 10 feet away from you. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and isn’t pushed.

When you reach 17th level in this class, you can increase the range of this feature to up to 30 feet.

Form of the Stormcloud

11th-level Way of Heavenly Wrath feature
You embody the aspects of a stormcloud and gain the following benefits:

One with the Storm. You gain resistance to lightning damage.

Intangible Stride. You can move through the space of any creature, regardless of size.

Lightning Rod. When an ally you can see is targeted by an effect that deals lightning damage, you can use your reaction to move up to half your speed toward them. If you end this movement within 5 feet of the ally, you become a target of the effect, and the ally is unaffected. If you take no damage from the effect, you can then spend 1 ki point to make a ranged attack against a creature within 60 feet, as part of the same reaction. You are proficient with this attack, and on a hit it deals lightning damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier.

God-Splitting Strike

17th-level Way of Heavenly Wrath feature
You have learned the ultimate technique of Heavenly Wrath, allowing you to instantly split a foe in two. As an action, you can choose an unoccupied space within 120 feet that isn't behind total cover and teleport to it. After you use this action, your speed is 0 until the end of the current turn. You can force one creature within a 5 feet wide line between the space you left and your destination to make a Dexterity saving throw. If it fails, it is bifurcated and dies. If it succeeds, it takes 10d10 lightning damage, and if it is Large or smaller, loses one limb of your choice, if it has any.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest, or you spend 10 ki points to use it again.
