# Artificer Speciality: Eldritch Machinist While it is often true that the finest craftspeople must travel far and wide to hone their skills, the adventuring life often leaves one at a loss for the raw materials and workspaces necessary for the finer works of artifice. The eldritch machinist has solved this conundrum; a trade perfected by transmuters with a proclivity towards engineering, these artificers wield powerful devices capable of printing three-dimensional objects even in the bleakest wildernesses! While other artificers may scoff at the supposed lack of skill the item’s seemingly easy production requires, they fail to grasp the ingenuity required to build, maintain, and program these incredibly temperamental devices. | Artificer Level | Eldritch Machinist Features | |:---:|:-----------:| | 3rd | Tool Proficiency, Eldritch Machinist Spells, Arcane Fabricator, Versatile Casting | | 5th | Spell Modification | | 9th | Flash Fabrication | | 15th | Precision Engineering | ### Tool Proficiency *3rd-level Eldritch Machinist feature* You gain proficiency with smith’s tools, or one other artisan’s tool of your choice if you already have that one. ### Eldritch Machinist Spells *3rd-level Eldritch Machinist feature* You always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Eldritch Machinist Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare. | Artificer Level | Spells | |:---:|:-----------:| | 3rd | *Ice Knife, Snare* | | 5th | *Arcane Lock, Knock* | | 9th | *Elemental Weapon, Galder’s Tower* | | 13th | *Fabricate, Otiluke’s Resilient Sphere* | | 17th | *Animate Objects, Creation* | ### Arcane Fabricator *3rd-level Eldritch Machinist feature* You construct a magical device capable of transmuting matter into shapes and patterns you designate: an arcane fabricator. The device is easily portable, but takes time to set up to access its full functionality. If you ever lose your arcane fabricator, you can create a new one over the course of a long rest, destroying the old one instantly. When you take a short or long rest, you can create a single nonmagical item which can fit within a 5-foot cube and which contains no liquid or ingestible parts; the specific items you may fabricate are up to the GM’s discretion, but as a rule of thumb any items from the armour, weapons, and adventuring gear tables in the PHB which meet the above prerequisites are fair game – you could create a longsword for instance, but not a vial of acid or healing potion. To create an item, you must expend raw materials and/or physical currency with a value equal to its base cost, which the arcane fabricator consumes. If your rest is interrupted (either by needing to scrounge parts form the fabricator to do battle, or just moving campsite), the components are still expended, but the process is ruined and that particular item is lost. All items you create with the arcane fabricator are serviceable – weapons deal normal damage, armour functions as intended, and rope is as strong as regular rope – however they are easily identifiable as having been magically produced due to their uniform colouration, basic design, or some other mark of the fabricator that cannot be hidden. ### Versatile Casting *3rd-level Eldritch Machinist feature* You can use spare material and your arcane fabricator’s printing nozzle to quickly print small consumable items. When you try to cast a spell that requires a material component that you do not possess, you may cast the spell as normal provided the material component’s cost is equal to or less than 10 times your artificer level in gold pieces. You may use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. ### Spell Modification *5th-level Eldritch Machinist feature* Your skill with arcane fabrication allows you to subtly modify the components of your spells. When you cast an artificer cantrip or spell which deals acid, cold, fire, lightning, poison, or thunder damage, you may change the damage type to any other type from the same list.

As part of a 1-minute ritual, you may expend a spell slot to print an item using your Arcane Fabricator, as though you had expended a number of gold pieces equal to twenty times the spell’s level. Items created in this way are flawed however, and will completely break down when you finish your next long rest. ### Precision Engineering *15th-level Eldritch Machinist feature* Your arcane fabricator reaches heights of precision unheard of even among others of your trade. Your Arcane Fabricator feature is enhanced in the following ways: * The fabricator can now produce nonmagical liquids and other consumable goods, such as food or vials of acid. * All weapons and armour produced by the fabricator count as +1 items of their make.
