Grappler
Grapplers often learn to fight for sport or for self defense, they are the most knitty and gritty of fighters engaging in fights that require them to roll around and wrestle on the ground.
Trained Grappler
At 3rd level you gain proficiency in athletics. If you already have this proficiency you gain expertise in it.
Submissions
Starting at 3rd level you learn to better restrain and damage enemies while grappling. This ability is represented by special techniques called submissions of which you learn three. You can only use a submission when you have a creature grappled and you can only use one submission a turn.
-
Submission Dice: You have four submission dice, which are d8s. Once you use a submission the dice is expended. You regain all submission dice when you finish a short or long rest.
-
Saving throws: Some of your submissions require a saving throw for the target to resist the submissions effects. The DC is calculated as follows DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your strength or dexterity modifier (your choice)
-
Bear Hug: You slip behind the creature temporarily restraining it. Force a single creature you have grappled to make a dexterity saving throw. On a failed save the creature is restrained until it breaks free of your grapple.
-
Choke You squeeze the creatures airway temporarily suffocating it. Force a single creature you have grappled to make a dexterity saving throw. On a failed save the creature begins suffocating (see suffocating rules). In addition the creature takes damage equal to your submission dice as a bonus action on subsequent turns you can repeat this damage. Both of these effects end once it breaks free of your grapple.
-
Joint Lock: You grab the creatures joints temporarily restraining them and attempt to break it. Force a single creature you have grappled to make a dexterity saving throw. On a failed save the creature suffers one of the following effects of your choice and takes damage equal to your submission dice. Either of these effects are ended only when a creature takes an action to pop the joint back into place.
Arm: Any melee attacks the creature makes with that arm are at disadvantage.
Leg: The creatures speed is reduced by ten feet and it cannot take the dash action.
Throws
Starting at 7th level you learn to quickly and efficietly take an opponent to where you're the most comfortable. When you grapple a creature you can as a free action choose to attempt to shove the creature prone. If you succeed the creature takes bludgeoning damage equal to your Submission dice.
Improved Grappling
Starting at 10th level your mastery of grappling begins to shine. Your submission dice increases to a d10 and to a d12 at 18th level. In addition you gain the ability to grapple huge creatures
Expert Grappler
Starting at 15th level you master the ability to grapple. You have advantage on all strength and dexterity checks to initiate or escape a grapple.
