Akuma's Assassin Revision

Next in my series of subclass revisions, is the roguish archetype of the Assassin. The standard 5e assassin attempts to translate the fantasy of an expert killer like Agent 47 or any one of the assassins from the Assassin's Creed games. While succeeding to a certain degree, the subclass is mechanically disappointing and nowadays serves simply as a 3 level dip for burst damage character builds. This redesign attempts to change that.

Roguish Archetype: The Assassin

You focus your training on the grim art of death. Those who adhere to this archetype are diverse—hired killers, spies, bounty hunters, and even specially anointed priests trained to exterminate the enemies of their deity. Stealth, poison, and disguise help you eliminate your foes with deadly efficiency.

Your archetype grants you features at 3rd level and then again at 9th, 13th, and 17th level.

Assassinate

Starting at 3rd level, you are at your deadliest when you get the drop on your enemies. You have advantage on attack rolls against any creature that hasn't taken a turn in the combat yet.

In addition, anytime you have advantage to attack a creature as a result of being an unseen attacker, you can deal additional damage to it equal to half the number of Sneak Attack dice for your level.

Chameleon

When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain the ability to unerringly mimic another person's speech, writing, and behavior. You must spend at least 1 minute studying these three components of the person's behavior, listening to speech, examining handwriting, and observing mannerism.

Your ruse is indiscernible to the casual observer. If a wary creature suspects something is amiss, you have advantage on any Charisma (Deception) check you make to avoid detection. In addition, you can use an action to don or doff one set of armor or clothes.

Brutalize

Starting at 9th level your skill with the lethal arts leaves onlookers horrified. When you reduce a hostile creature to 0 hit points with a weapon attack, each creature of your choice within 30 feet of the target must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 8 + your Dexterity modifier + your proficiency bonus) or be Frightened of you until the end of your next turn.

Effortless Escape

Starting at 13th level Whenever a creature loses sight of you, you can immediately use a reaction to take the hide action. When you take the hide action in such a way, you make the Dexterity(Stealth) check with advantage.

Death Strike

Starting at 17th level, you become a master of instant death. When you hit a creature on your first turn of combat with a weapon attack, it must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your Dexterity modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, double the damage of your attack against the creature.
