Monk Subclass: Way of The Curse Weaver

Sometimes known as "Jujutsu Sorcerers", Curse Weavers have mastered the art of channeling their own dark "cursed" energy into a variety of specialized techniques in order to combat dark entities who seek to prey on the innocent.

Subclass Features

Accursed Disciple

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you learn magical disciplines that harness the power of cursed energy. A discipline requires you to spend ki points each time you use it.

You know the Cursed Attunement Technique and one other cursed technique of your choice, which are detailed in the “Cursed Techniques” section below. You learn one additional cursed technique of your choice at 6th, 11th, and 17th level.

Whenever you learn a new cursed technique, you can also replace one cursed technique that you already know with a different technique.

Casting Cursed Spells

some cursed techniques allow you to cast spells. See the Spellcasting section for the general rules of spellcasting. To cast one of these spells, you use its casting time and other rules, but you don’t need to provide material components for it.

Once you reach 5th level in this class, you can spend additional ki points to increase the level of a cursed technique spell that you cast, provided that the spell has an enhanced effect at a higher level, as Command does. The spell’s level increases by 1 for each additional ki point you spend. For example, if you are a 5th-level monk and use Cursed Speech to cast [spell]command[/spell], you can spend 3 ki points to cast it as a 2nd-level spell (the technique's base cost of 2 ki points plus 1).

The maximum number of ki points you can spend to cast a spell in this way (including its base ki point cost and any additional ki points you spend to increase its level) is determined by your monk level, as shown in the Spells and Ki Points table.

Black Flash

At 17th level in this class, you gain the ability to channel your cursed energy into a string of devastating attacks. The first time you land a critical hit on an enemy, you can spend 5 Ki points, your melee attacks now crit on 19-20 until the end of your turn, additionally, for the remainder of your turn, each subsequent critical hit widens the critical window by one to a maximum of 17-20.

Cursed Techniques

The Cursed Techniques are presented in alphabetical order. If a discipline requires a level, you must be that level in this class to learn the technique.

Black Shrapnel

You can use 3 Ki Points to cast Conjure Barrage. Requires 6th level

Boogie Woogie

As a bonus action, you can spend 3 Ki points to attempt to instantly switch places with another creature within 30 feet of you. The target creature must be your size class or smaller, and it must make a (WIS) saving throw against your spell save DC. Willing creatures can choose to fail. Requires 6th level

Cursed Attunement

Through rigorous training, you've mastered the art of tracking dark entities. You have Advantage on all skill checks using (INT) or (Wis) to track and recall information regarding Undead, Fiends, and Aberrations. Additionally, you may use an action to manifest your cursed energy in one of the following ways:

  • Your voice booms three times as loud for 1 minute
  • Instantaneously light or snuff out a candle, a torch, or a small campfire.
  • Create an instantaneous sound that originates from a point of your choice within 30 feet.
  • Cause an unlocked window or door to fly open or slam shut.

Cursed Speech

You can use 2 Ki Points to cast Command. Requires 3rd level

Dark Puppetry

You can use 5 Ki points to cast Animate Objects. Requires 17th level

Demonic Speed

You can use 4 Ki Points to cast Haste. Requires 11th level

Divergent Fist

You can spend 1 Ki point to add 1 Martial Arts Die of Necrotic Damage when you land a hit with an unarmed strike. The maximum number of Ki Points you can spend on a single hit is determined by the "Spells and Ki Points" table in the "Accursed Disciple" section.

Elemental Courage

You can use 3 Ki Points to cast Elemental Weapon. Requires 6th level

Lethal Ratio

You've mastered the art of analyzing your enemies and through the use of cursed energy can create weak points at specific ratios. You can spend 3 Ki points to take a -5 penalty to your next attack roll, if it hits you add +10 to the attack's damage. Requires 6th level

Rolling Thunder

You can use 2 Ki points to cast Thunderwave. Requires 3rd level

Shadow Strike

You can use 6 Ki Points to cast Steel Wind Strike. Requires 17th level

Ten Shadows Technique

You may spend 3 Ki Points to cast conjure animals. Requires 6th level
