# Demon

Demons have come a long, long way in the world of Endorrain. Despite this, demons are considered a "lesser" race to devils and were formerly enslaved by them, trapped in Hell. Demons know firsthand the horrors of what devils bring and were only able to escape Hell when a single demon named Ekernon sacrificed himself in order to get the rest of his people to safety through a portal. The demons earned their freedom shortly after but at the cost of coming into a world that grew to fear their demonic appearances.

Demons first settled in the southern Skahdrachian deserts where they learned they could live without being affected by the blistering heat. Despite being creatures that have infernal blood in their systems, their abilities correlate more to emotions - which was only greatly increased when they came to Endorrain and were out of Hell.

They are very sensitive beings and feel their emotions stronger than even humans, which many believe is due to them having more intricate emotions since they come from hell where emotions are numbed to only those involving pain and suffering. This means demons experience emotions tenfold compared to what a normal human might. Feeling a glimpse of sadness in a normal human would probably transpose as a full on depressive episode for a demon. This also means that any "good" emotions tend to allow demons to feel as though they are experiencing some kind of "high".

### Demonic Heritage

Demons are beings that tend to live in superfluity, no doubt on the account they are often used to the layers in hell. They enjoy all earthly pleasures since they can offer such a wide range of different emotions, or in some cases, help to "numb" the demon from feeling anything.

This tends to lead demons to partake in excessive amounts of activities that would normally be classified as "sinful". This includes things like drinking, having sex, or doing drugs. In addition demons naturally radiate an aura that tends to draw people into also performing “sinful” acts by essentially making someone want to over indulge or listen to their darkest desire.

Because they share blood with devils, their appearance does make them similar to their infernal creators. Humanoid in appearance, demons tend to have skin tones that range farther past that of a normal human's. It's not uncommon to find a demon with tinges of red, purple, black, grey, or sometimes even blue mixed into their skin. They usually have eyes with black scleroses as opposed to white and usually the color of their irises can be unusual colors - like bright yellow or red - as well. A common feature found among all demons are their horns: which most demons are immensely proud of. Usually resting somewhere on a demon’s forehead, these horns come in numerous variations from giant ram horns, to twisting gazelle horns, to tiny little goat horns. Old bloodlines typically have the same set of horns which becomes a staple for powerful family names.

Demons have a bit more room for variation. Some may or may not have tails which are either furred, scaled, or both. Some - but not at all - may also have a pair of bat-like, leathery wings. Some demons have wings that are too tattered - a common birth defect in demons - to allow for flight.

### Demonic Names

Demon names fall into three broad categories. Most have names that match the culture which they come from: such as a human or elvish name. Others may have a "demonic" or "infernal" name which is representative of their fiendish heritage.

Some younger demons striving to find a place in the world, adopt a name that signifies a virtue or other concept and then try to embody that concept. For some, the chosen name is a quest. For others, its a grim destiny.

#### Demonic Traits

<p>

***Ability Score Increase.*** Choose any +2; choose any other +1

***Age.*** Demons age quicker than humans, due to their infernal bloodline. They can live upwards of seven hundred years or so. Similar to humans though they are considered adults in their late teens.

***Size.*** Tieflings are about the same size and build as humans. Your size is Medium.

***Speed.*** Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

***Darkvision.*** Thanks to your infernal heritage, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

***Once from the Nine Hells.*** Your lineage carries down through your blood. You are resistant to fire damage.

***Innate Magic.*** You have natural abilities that give you certain innate magic. You know the *Produce Flame* cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the *Detect Thoughts* spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the *Calm Emotions* spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest.

Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race).

***Languages.*** You can speak, read, and write Common, Infernal, and one standard language of choice.

***Subrace.*** There is a subrace of demons known as cambions. Should you choose this subrace, your innate magic abilities change but the rest of your racial abilities stay the same.

### Cambions

There are some demons that take more after the devils whose blood they share. While they are classified as a subrace of demons, they are almost their own species entirely. They act much more like devils, but in a more sophisticated way. While devils act more animalistic and beastial, cambions are more controlled and precise. If anything, some find them to be even more terrifying than some devils - since they have more human emotions and thought processes but the powers of a devil.

Cambions are part of the reason why demons have gained such a bad reputation, since they are what people fear all devils will be like. They are usually aggressive, powerful, and ruthless. Typically cambions are much more willingy to give into their emotions and sins that they so desperately crave. Those who wish to indulge in wrath will ruthlessly kill in order to sate their endless appetite for such emotions.

Cambions look much more like devils compared to demons. Their skin tones will be darker, more vibrant shades than the demons. They will have horns, wings, and tails that look similar to what a devil might have. Some cambions have goat-like legs with cloven hooves. A key feature of cambions is usually a massive pair of horns that are far more defined compared to a demon's.
