Ki
Starting at 2nd level, your training allows you to harness the mystic energy of ki. Your access to this energy is represented by a number of ki points. The number of ki points you have is determined by your Monk level + your Proficiency Bonus at your current Monk level (note: if you multiclass and your Proficiency Bonus increases, this doesn't increase your number of ki points), as shown in the Ki Points column of the Monk table.
You can spend these points to fuel various ki features. You start knowing three such features: Flurry of Blows, Patient Defense, and Step of the Wind. You learn more ki features as you gain levels in this class.
When you spend a ki point, it is unavailable until you finish a short or long rest, at the end of which you draw all of your expended ki back into yourself. You must spend at least 30 minutes of the rest meditating to regain your ki points.
Ki Master (Optional)
This 20th level feature replaces the Perfect Self feature. You gain no benefit from the replaced feature and don't qualify for anything in the game that requires it.
You have truly mastered your ki. On your turn, you may use your Flurry of Blows, Patient Defense, or Step of the Wind features without expending a ki point.
Additionally, whenever you hit a creature with an unarmed strike or with a monk weapon, you may expend up to 3 ki points. The creature takes a number of d4s of additional damage equal to the number of ki points expended.
