Manastorm Oozes

Manastorm oozes are a rare kind of ooze that possesses a special hunger of magical energy. Many experts believe that the manastorm ooze is not a natural variant of their kind, but rather the result of some manner of arcane experimentation. At first glance, manastorm oozes are hardly indistinguishable from common kinds of ooze. However, they can be easily distinguished by their magical bioluminescence, especially when in the presence of magic. Depending on the type or source of magic, manastorm oozes have been known to glow different colors.

Magical Devourers

The diet of the manastorm ooze is primarily sustained by raw magical energy. Because of this, manastorm oozes are generally attracted to arcane hot spots such as leylines or interplanar rifts where they can freely feed off this energy. In some high-magic civilizations, manastorm oozes are actually a common pest as they can be found tampering or devouring arcane structures and devices in search of food. Despite their magical diet, one should not underestimate the danger that these creatures present. Although they find little use in devouring flesh and bone, they are drawn to spellcasters or those wielding magical items in an attempt to devour the magical energy around them.

Manastorm Ooze Tactics

The physiology of a manastorm ooze is perfectly suited for its lifestyle as a magivore. The ooze's bioluminescent ectoplasm has innate antimagic properties that prevents creatures or objects from emitting magical effects once trapped within the ooze's form. When attacking living creatures, the manastorm ooze primarily targets those with the greatest spellcasting potential, particularly those with unused high level spell slots. With a single touch, the manastorm ooze is able to siphon one's arcane essence and temporarily disrupt their ability to cast spells.

Arcane Metabolism

However, their most disturbing ability is that they can channel and store raw magical energy to stimulate their cellular metabolism. When exposed to concentrated spellfire, the manastorm ooze has a chance of using that energy to replicate a smaller clone of itself. This behavior often spells immediate doom for reckless or inexperienced spellcasters who continue feeding its magical energy ultimately resulting in a manastorm ooze infestation.

Amorphous Form The ooze can 5) | move through a space as narrow as one inch without squeezing.

Arcane Bioluminescence The ooze can pinpoint the location of a spell effect or spellcaster within 300ft. of it. Upon using this feature, the ooze gives off a dim light in a 20ft. radius.

Magical Attacks The ooze's attacks are considered magical for the purpose of overcoming

Magical Resistance The ooze has advantage on spells and magical effects.

Ooze Form The ooze takes up its entire space. Other creatures can enter the space, but a creature that does so is subjected to the ooze's Engulf and has disadvantage on the saving throw.

Creatures inside the ooze can be seen but have total cover. A creature within 5 feet of the ooze can take an action to pull a creature or object out of the ooze. Doing so requires a successful DC 12 Strength check, and the creature making the attempt takes 10 (2d8) acid damage.

The ooze can hold only one Large creature or up to four Medium or smaller creatures inside it at a time.

Spider Climb The ooze can climb difficult surfaces, including ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

Actions

Multiattack. The ooze can make two attacks with its pseudopods

Pseudopod. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, 10ft., one target. Hit: 7 (2d4+2) acid damage.

Spell Siphon One creature within 10ft. of the ooze must succeed a DC 15 Charisma saving throw. On a failed saving throw, the target takes force damage equal to a number of d10s equal to level of the target's highest available spell slot. This effect fails if the target cannot cast spells.

Engulf. The ooze moves up to its speed. While doing so, it can enter Large or smaller creatures' spaces. Whenever the ooze enters a creature's space, the creature must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw.

On a successful save, the creature can choose to be pushed 5 feet back or to the side of the ooze. A creature that chooses not to be pushed suffers the consequences of a failed saving throw.

On a failed save, the ooze enters the creature's space, and the creature takes 10 (4d4) acid damage and is engulfed. The engulfed creature can't breathe, is restrained, and takes 10 (4d4) acid damage at the start of each of its turns.

When the ooze moves, the engulfed creature moves with it. An engulfed creature can try to escape by taking an action to make a DC 12 Strength check. On a success, the creature escapes and enters a space of its choice within 5 feet of the ooze.

Reactions

Arcane Split When the ooze succeeds a saving throw from a spell effect, it takes no damage and if the ooze has least 10 hitpoints, the ooze can spawn a manastorm ooze in an unoccupied space large or smaller within 5ft. of it. The new ooze has hitpoints equal to half the original's current hitpoints, rounded down. New oozes are one size smaller than the original.
