## Druid Circle ### Circle of Despair Druids of the Circle of Despair recognize the inevitability of death and draw upon the dark energies of the Shadowfell to hasten enemies of nature to their end. Fueled by the negative emotions contained within the Plane of Shadow, these dreads are under constant threat of being overcome by sorrow and darkness. Members of this circle must possess nerves of steel and a heart of stone to stand against the constant flood of enervating emotions that they channel. ##### Circle Spells You learn to draw upon the dread magic of the Shadowfell, allowing you to tap into the torment caused by the Plane of Shadows and hasten the living world towards its inevitable end. Your link to the Shadowfell grants you access to some spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Circle of Despair Spells table. Once you gain access to one of these spells, you always have it prepared, and it doesn't count against the number of spells you can prepare each day. If you gain access to a spell that doesn't appear on the druid spell list, the spell is nonetheless a druid spell for you. ___ **Circle of Despair Spells** | Druid Level | Spells | |:----:|:-------------| | 3rd | Phantasmal Force, Shadow Blade | | 5th | Enemies Abound, Summon Shadowspawn | | 7th | Phantasmal Killer, Shadow of Moil | | 9th | Enervation, Negative Energy Flood | #### Sorrow Form At 2nd level, you gain the ability to call upon the energies of the Shadowfell to protect you. As an action, you can expend one use of your Wild Shape feature to take on your sorrow form, rather than transforming into a beast. While in this form, you retain your game statistics, but your body and equipment becomes wreathed in a lifeless aura: your eyes fade to grey, and any trace of vibrant color is muted to a hollow shell of what it once was. The form lasts for 10 minutes. It ends early if you dismiss it (no action required), are incapacitated, die, or use this feature again. You also choose which dread emotion to manifest around you; your choice gives you certain benefits while in this form: ___ ***Anger.*** You wreath yourself in shadowy flames. While in this form, your attacks and cantrips deal an additional 1d4 necrotic damage, and- as a reaction to being hit- you can make an attack of opportunity or cast a cantrip against the creature that attacked you. ___ ***Fear.*** Your shadow darkens and moves on its own. While in this form, you can use your action to incite mortal fear in one creature you can see within 60 feet of you. The creature must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or become frightened of you until the end of its next turn. ___ ***Hunger.*** You manifest a set of shadowy jaws. While in this form, you can use your action to make a melee spell attack, causing the jaws to lunge towards one creature within 10 feet of you. On a hit, the attack deals necrotic damage equal to 1d10 + your Wisdom modifier. ___ ***Isolation.*** Your shadow merges with you to obscure you from sight. While in this form, you are considered heavily obscured when within dim light, and you can use your bonus action to take the Dash action to move towards a creature. #### Eyes of the Dark Also at 2nd level, the Shadowfell imbues you with unnatural sight, granting you darkvision out to 60 feet. #### Shadow Shield At 6th level, you learn to draw the vitality from others into yourself. Whenever you deal damage to a creature while in your sorrow form, you gain temporary hit points equal to half of the damage dealt to it. #### Hungering Shadows At 10th level, your mastery over the torment induced by the Shadowfell expands. Whenever you assume your Sorrow Form, you can choose one additional dread emotion to manifest. #### Dread Naught At 14th level, your being has become suffused with sorrow granting you the following benefits: * You can see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 60 feet. * You are resistant to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage while in dim light or darkness. * You are immune to being frightened. * You no longer need to eat or drink. * You cannot become lost except by magical means.
