Paladin Oath

Oath of Radiance

Paladins who swear an Oath of Radiance are raised up as champions of light whose holy mission is to purge the darkness from all corners of the land. Sometimes referred to as Dawn Guards or Lantern Knights, paladins who follow the light form tight knit orders that serve deities whose domain is light. Some orders follow no deity, instead casting their gaze to the celestial bodies above. To these warriors the elimination of darkness is paramount above all, and will achieve their goal by any means necessary.

Tenets of Radiance

The tenets of the Oath of Radiance push paladins to become radiant beacons for all to follow through the darkest nights.


Purge the Darkness. You must excise the blight of darkness wherever it may be found.
Peer into the Abyss. Understand the darkness, but do not let it corrupt you.
Safeguard the Dawn. Eliminate those who threaten the coming dawn.
No Matter the Cost. Stop darkness in its tracks, laws and morals cannot bind you.

Channel Divinity: Incandescent Flare

You can use your Channel Divinity to blind your enemies and light up the area around you. As an action, you force each creature of your choice that you can see within 30 feet of you to make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature becomes blinded for 1 minute. The blinded creature can repeat this saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Channel Divinity: Purging Light

You can use your Channel Divinity to attempt to purge the darkness from one creature you can see within 30 feet of you. As an action, you can force one creature to make a Constitution saving throw. On a failure a creature takes radiant damage equal to 2d8 + half your Paladin level (rounding up). On a success a creature takes half as much.

Radiant Body

Starting at 7th level, light permeates your body. You begin to radiate bright light in a 15-foot radius around you and dim light for an additional 15-feet. As a bonus action you can diminish the light to a faint glow casting no light or you can restore the light to its full radiance.

If a creature makes a melee attack roll against you while you are at full radiance you may use your reaction to briefly blind them imposing disadvantage on the roll. At 18th-level, the creature also takes radiant damage equal to your Charisma modifier.

Illuminant Mind

Starting at 15th level, light permeates your mind allowing you to see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 120 feet. If any of your spells and effects that generate light overlap with an area of magical darkness created by a spell of 5th-level or lower the spell that created the darkness is dispelled.

You also gain proficiency in Intelligence saving throws and have advantage on Insight checks made to detect lies or similar deceptions.

Refulgent Soul

Starting at 20th level, light permeates your every aspect of your being. As an action, you can undergo a transformation becoming the avatar of light, the Lightwalker, gaining the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • You gain resistance to radiant and necrotic damage.
  • You emanate an aura of burning ethereal light in a 30-foot radius filling the space with dim light. Creatures of your choice that enter or start their turn within the aura must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC or take 7 (2d6) radiant damage and grants you advantage on attack rolls against it until the start of the targets next turn.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
