Artificer: Impactor
The Impactor is a warrior that focuses on leading their group leading their platoon across the battlefield, breaking into enemy defenses to turn the tides of battle. Accompanied by their pile driver, they not only demolish barriers but any armored opponents that stand in their way.
Tool Proficiency
When you adopt this specialization at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with smith's tools. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan's tools of your choice.
Impactor Spells
| Artificer Level | Spell |
|---|---|
| 1st | Longstrider, Searing Smite |
| 5th | Kinetic Jaunt, Heat Metal |
| 9th | Counter Spell, Thunder Step |
| 13th | Freedom of Movement, Staggering Smite |
| 17th | Far Step, Steel Wind Strike |
Mechanical Training
When you reach 3rd level, your combat training and your experiments with magic have paid off in two ways:
- You gain proficiency with a magical defense piercing device known as a pile driver.
- When you attack with a magic weapon, you can use your Intelligence modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity modifier, for the attack and damage rolls.
Pile Driver
At the 3rd level, you learn how to create a magical pile driver. Using tinker’s tools or smith's tools, you can use your long rest to craft a pile driver from the ones listed below. The weapon is one-handed with the reach property. Other properties are listed with each unique pile driver.
Once you create a pile driver, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest. You can have only one pile driver at a time and can't create one while your pile driver is present.
| Pile Driver | Properties |
|---|---|
| Drill | 1d6 piercing damage, on hit applies -1 to target AC to a maximum equal to your proficiency bonus. As an action, it allows you to burrow 10 feet. |
| Stake | 2d8 piercing damage, range of this driver increases by 5 feet. When you roll a 1 or 2 on a damage die you can reroll the die and must use the new roll, even if the new roll is a 1 or a 2, once per turn. |
| Ram | 2d6 bludgeoning damage, on hit target must make a Strength Saving Throw against your Spell Save DC or be pushed back 10 feet. |
A pile driver is a magical object. Regardless of the driver, it can destroy non-magical objects. You use your intelligence modifier when making attack rolls and damage rolls.
Additionally, you can imbue your pile driver with infusions.
Clash of Wills
At 5th level,, whenever you are targeted by a spell that requires you to make a Dexterity saving throw, you can use a reaction to clash the spell with your pile driver. Roll an attack roll against the caster’s spell save DC. A roll equal to or more than dispels the spell. You can use this once per long rest or with a 2nd level spell slot.
Battlefield Rush
Starting at 9th level, you learn how to speed faster across the battlefield to lay waste to defences. You gain the following abilities.
- You gain an additional 10 feet of movement. You gain another 10 feet at level 14.
- Your attacks deal an additional 2d6 force damage.
- Attacks against structures deal double damage.
Heavenly Impactor
Your Pile Driver gains additional benefits based on its model, as shown below.
| Pile Driver | Additional Benefits |
|---|---|
| Drill | Additional d6 piercing damage. You can use your bonus action to use your drill for burrowing speed of 30 ft. |
| Stake | Additional d8 piercing damage, range of this driver becomes 30/60. |
| Ram | Additional d6 bludgeoning damage, on hit target, must make a Strength Saving Throw against your Spell Save DC or be pushed back 30 feet. |
