## Slave of Scorn Straddling the line between living and undeath, a slave of scorn is a muscular, monstrous humanoid, its most distinct feature being a half-dozen or more swords or similar blades impaling its ash-gray body. It has the pointed claws and teeth of a ghoul, though not nearly as sharp, and it lacks the ghoul's hunched, emaciated form and its stench of death, instead carrying a pungent reek of dried blood and dust. They are a rare kind of undead, requiring a master capable of retaining devout mortal servants, but they uniquely know to avoid harming and may even protect them given proper obeisance. Many can still be found wandering the tombs and ruins of once-great necromantic civilizations. **Creation.** A slave of scorn is created when a willing humanoid performs an hour long ritual, during which several swords are driven into their body. The ritual is invariably fatal, but if performed correctly and if the volunteer's resolve and devotion do not falter, the body rises as a slave of scorn when its master commands it. An alternate method requires six or more slaves of scorn all serving the same master to perform a one minute ritual upon a willing humanoid, each donating one of their blades. A coerced or mentally broken victim will also suffice. **Loot.** A slave of scorn's weapons are in invariably poor condition and, without its own magic to aid them, largely useless for anything except perhaps creating a new one. It may however have been given decorations such as an unholy symbol, a incense burner and/or jewelry worth up to 1d6×5gp in total. If the slave of scorn successfully uses its Hurl Head, all items it carried corrode into worthlessness. **Undead Nature.** A slave of scorn doesn't require air, food, drink or sleep, though it may try to mimic such behaviors. **At Any Cost.** A slave of scorn reduced to 20 hit points or below immediately drops its weapons and will use Hurl Head at the earliest opportunity. **Dark Devotee.** A slave of scorn cannot cast spells itself, but it can contribute to group spellcasting like a 3rd-level Wisdom-based spellcaster. \columnbreak ___ > ## Slave of Scorn >*Medium undead, lawful evil* > ___ > - **Armor Class** 15 (natural armor) > - **Hit Points** 60 (8d8 + 24) > - **Speed** 30 ft. >___ >|STR|DEX|CON|INT|WIS|CHA| >|:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:| >|13 (+1)|15 (+2)|16 (+3)|11 (+0)|13 (+1)|9 (-1)| >___ > - **Saving Throws** Wis +5 > - **Skills** Perception +3, Religion +2 > - **Damage Resistances** poison > - **Condition Immunities** blinded, exhausted > - **Senses** darkvision 60 feet, passive Perception 13 > - **Languages** the languages it knew in life > - **Challenge** 3 (700 XP) > ___ > > ***Mockery of Life.*** The slave of scorn has advantage on saving throws against effects that specifically target undead and can regain hit points from effects which don'zt normally affect undead. > > ### Actions > ***Multiattack.*** The slave of scorn makes two melee attacks or one ranged attack with its swords, plus an additional attack if it moves no more than half its speed this turn. > > ***Sword Strike.*** *Melee Weapon Attack:* +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. *Hit:* 5 (1d8+1) slashing damage plus 4 (1d8) necrotic damage. > > ***Sword Throw.*** *Ranged Weapon Attack:* +4 to hit, range 60/120 ft., one target. *Hit:* 6 (1d8+2) piercing damage plus 4 (1d8) necrotic damage. > > ***Hurl Head.*** *Ranged Weapon Attack:* +7 to hit, range 30/60 ft., one creature. *Hit:* 27 (6d8) necrotic damage and the target is poisoned for 1 minute. The slave of scorn dies, melting into a cloud of gas. For 1 round, any non-undead creature that starts its turn within 5 fee of the corpse or enters the area for the first time on its turn must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw, taking 13 (3d8) necrotic damage and becoming poisoned for 1 minute on a failed save, or taking half as much damage and not being poisoned on a successful one. A poisoned creature takes 7 (2d6) poison damage at the start of each of its turns, and can make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw at the end of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. > [Slave of Scorn 001](https://www.artstation.com/artwork/kDOY92 "from Mortal Shell") - Ash Thorp
