Sacred Oaths

At 3rd level, a paladin gains the Sacred Oaths feature. The following option is available to a paladin.

Oath of the Flame

Paladins who take the Oath of the Flame believe that in the destruction and violent uprising of zealous fervor, the world may be reshaped in the flames. Also known as Phoenix Paladins, they dedicate their lives to burning down that which the flame deems destroyed, such as evil, tyranny, decay, and corruption.

Tenets of the Flame

A paladin who takes this oath does so before the great flame of their order, before then burning a part of their body with the flame.

Feed the Flame. Always strive towards achieving your purpose and setting goals before yourself. The flame must be fed!

Forge from the Ashes. Anything that was once made, can be destroyed and made once again.

Violence onto Violence. All things must live to fight, why believe there is any other alternative.

Channel Divinity

3rd-Level Oath of the Flame feature

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Fiery Wrath. As an action, you can use your Channel Divinity to unleash the flame upon a creature within 30 feet of you. It must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 2d6 + your paladin level in fire damage, or take half as much damage on a success. Additionally if a creature failed the save, it catches fire for 1 minute and takes 1d6 fire damage at the start of each of its turns. It can spend an action to put out the fire.

Blinding Presence. As an action, you can use your Channel Divinity to rebuke those who cannot gaze upon your visage, especially those who are used to see in the dark. Each creature within 30 feet of you must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or become blinded until the end of your next turn. Creatures with the Darkvision trait have disadvantage on this saving throw.

Volcanic Aura

7th-Level Oath of the Flame feature

You emit an aura of the flame, which grants its protective warmth to your allies, so long as you aren't incapacitated. While within the aura, you and friendly creatures gain resistance to fire damage, as well as gaining a +1 bonus to AC.

Flamesoul

15th-Level Oath of the Flame feature

Your aura of the flame grows to a spark of heat that rebukes your foes. Whenever a creature hits you with a melee attack, that creature takes fire damage equal to your Charisma modifier if you're not incapacitated.

Flame Emperor

20th-Level Oath of the Flame feature

You can manifest the flame in its full glory. As a bonus action, you gain the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • You shed bright light in a 30-foot radius, and dim light 30 feet beyond that.
  • Whenever you damage a creature with Fire or Radiant damage, you ignore their resistance to that damage. If such a creature had immunity, it then becomes resistant to the damage instead.
  • Whenever a creature starts its turn within 30 feet of you, it takes 10 fire damage.
