Oath of Loyalty

The Oath of Loyalty is among the simplest one might swear. It is to devote oneself entirely to another: whether a lord, order, friend, or lover, the Oath of Loyalty has made paladins of lofty knights and unwitting commoners alike. It binds the individual to their chosen ward, devoting life and limb to their protection and their cause.

Tenants of Loyalty

The Oath of Loyalty sees a paladin devote themselves to another.

Loyalty. The virtue upon which you base your oath. Never betray your ward.

Vigilance. The safety of comrades is everything. Guard them vigilantly.

Dignity. How you behave reflects upon your allies. Conduct yourself accordingly.

Oath Spells

3rd-level Oath of Loyalty feature
You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed in the Oath of the Keepers table.

Oath of Loyalty Spells
Paladin Level Spells
3rd gift of alacrity, shield of faith
5th aid, warding bond
9th aura of vitality, beacon of hope
13th aura of life, death ward
17th raise dead, Rary's telepathic bond

Channel Divinity

3rd-level Oath of Loyalty feature
You gain the following Channel Divinity options.

Divine Bodyguard. When a friendly creature you can see is targeted by an attack, you can use your Channel Divinity and move up to half your speed toward them as a reaction. If you end this movement within 5 feet of them, you become the target of the attack instead. You can repeat this reaction for the same creature for up to 1 minute.

Comrade's Aid. When a friendly creature you can see makes an ability check, you can use your Channel Divinity to grant a bonus to the roll equal to 2 x your Charisma modifier. This bonus can be applied before or after making the roll, but before the outcome is determined.

Aura of Loyalty

7th-level Oath of Loyalty feature
You emanate a aura of loyalty, lessening the harm your allies can do to each other. This aura extends 10 feet from you in every direction.

When you or other friendly creatures within your aura are subject to an effect created by an ally that allows a saving throw to take only half damage, you and those creatures instead take no damage on a success, and only half damage on a failure.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Unbreakable Bond

15th-level Oath of Loyalty feature
At the end of a long rest, you can designate one friendly creature you can see. While the creature is within 60 feet of you, it gains the benefits of warding bond, as if you had cast it. You can suppress or reapply these benefits at the start of your turn. You may only have one designated creature at a time, and if you designate a new creature, the previous one loses the benefits of this feature.

Avatar of Loyalty

20th-level Oath of Loyalty feature
You draw on the power of the bonds between your allies. As a bonus action, you gain the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls for every other friendly creature within 30 feet of you, to a maximum of +5.
  • Once per turn when a friendly creature is targeted by an attack, you can use your Loyal Bodyguard feature (no reaction required) without being restricted to the same creature.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
