Persein
Forged as children of the Night Lord as harbingers of renewal just centuries ago, the Persein are in likeness to bats and humanoids that have become thralls to the damned. The Night Lord is a deity of freedom and renewal, such so that many scholars describe the fortune of the Persein as divine comedy - an irony that screams blasphemy to their creator. Soon after their creation the Persein were treated as mutated animals, forced to be servants of those who ascribed a usefulness to them. At first, devils. Then, vampires. Their creator spared no expense in their creation, seeing the Persein as his children. In doing so, the Night Lord expended much of his strength, slipping into a deep slumber with no knowledge of the fate his creations. Some rumors trickle through the realms telling tales of the Night Lord's awakening, though it very well may be hearsay. Those who have been able to escape the thrall of their masters seek freedom, whether that be heroics or hedonism.
Persein Traits
***Ability Score Increase.*** Increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. ***Creature Type.*** You are a Humanoid. You are also considered a monstrosity for any prerequisite or effect that requires you to be a monstrosity. ***Size.*** Persein stand between 5 and 7 feet tall and average about 160 pounds. Your size is Medium. ***Speed.*** Your walking speed is 30 feet. ***Flight.*** Because of your wings, you have a flying speed
equal to your walking speed. You can’t use this
flying speed if you’re wearing medium or
heavy armor. ***Darkvision.*** You can see in dim light
within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light
and in darkness as if it were dim light. You
discern colors in that darkness only as shades
of gray. ***Keen Hearing.*** You advantage on Wisdom
(Perception) checks that rely on hearing. ***Fangs.*** You have fangs that you can use to
make unarmed strikes. When you hit with them, the
strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier piercing
damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. ***Sonar.*** Due to your natural born sensitivity to sound, you can use a limited form of echolocation that allows you to functionally see within 20 feet of you, even if your eyes are closed but not magically blinded. However, you cannot see anything that is behind total cover. At 5th level, you gain the ability to see invisible creatures with this trait that are not successfully hidden to you. You cannot use this trait while deafened. ***Speak with Bat.*** You have the ability to communicate in a limited manner with bats. They can understand the meaning of your words, though you have no special ability to understand them in return. You have advantage on all Charisma checks you make to influence them. ***Languages.*** You can speak, read and write Common and can speak Persein. Persein is an evolving language, comprised of complex, high-pitched chittering.
Racial Feat
If your DM allows the optional feats rule from Chapter 6 of the *Player's Handbook*, your Persein character has access to the following feat.
Echolocation
*Prerequisite: Persein, Level 11+* Your superior hearing now allows you complete control of your sonar trait. - Your Wisdom or Dexterity score increases by 1, to a maximum of 20. - You have blindsight with a range of 30 feet. Within that range, you can effectively see anything that isn’t behind total cover, even if you’re blinded or in darkness. You cannot use this feature while deafened.
