If King Grol does not command Snarl he will dodge. King Grol is a fierce old bugbear chief. He rules the Cragmaws through pure intimidation. Age has stooped his shoulders and hunched his back, but he remains surprisingly agile and strong. He is demanding and vindictive and wily, and no Cragmaw dares to cross him. Grol is attended by Snarl, his attack wolf. When the characters find King Grol he will be in his chambers negotiating with Eireval, a rakish duelist dressed in tight black studded leather armour, who works directly with the Black Spider. King Grol has Gundren and Gundren's map showing the location of Wave Echo Cave. The Black Spider wants both of those things, or to have them destroyed so they will not disclose the location of Wave Echo Cave. King Grol is in an alliance with the Black Spider as he has been promised some amount of wealth to help renovate his castle - which is in danger of collapsing completely- so he has captured Gundren and the map as requested. As a King though he expects everyone to show him respect (i.e. to comply with his every whim) and he demands an appropriate tithe before handing over Gundren and the map.
