The Muppets
The Muppets are an American ensemble cast of puppet characters known for an absurdist, burlesque, and self-referential style of variety-sketch comedy. The majority of the Muppets are designed as hand puppets, with several characters utilizing rods. Common design elements of the Muppets include wide mouths and large protruding eyes. Most of the Muppets are molded or carved out of various types of foam and covered with any felt-like material. The characters may represent humans; anthropomorphic characters; realistic animals; robots; extraterrestrial or mythical creatures; or other forms of abstract characters.
A Peculiar Species...
Muppets have two main quirks that separate them from the other races. The first being their need for a "Muppet Performer," as all Muppets have no motor skills whatsoever. The less known quirk is that a Muppet's language becomes more unintelligible correlated to the more of an outlier their intelligence lies.
Muppet Performers
Muppets have need of an operator, known as a "Muppet Performer." A Muppet can communicate with their performer through an instantaneous psychic connection that is beneficial to both Muppet and Performer. The Performer gets an intense amount of pleasure from operating a Muppet, while the Muppet gets to move. The Muppet Performer has the following properties:
- While operating a Muppet, the Performer cannot be perceived by any means.
- The Performer can only be harmed through area of effect attacks and rolls Dexterity saving throws at +7 to avoid damage.
- The Performer otherwise has the stats of a human commoner with 4 hit points.
- If the Performer dies, any sentient creature (other than another Muppet) can serve as a Performer, until the Performer can be replaced. Replacement usually takes a long rest, unless there is a source of common people nearby. Then they can be psychically summoned, taking one hour to arrive.
Muppet Language
A Muppet can speak any learned languages with the following restrictions:
- A Muppet's speech is unintelligible to races that are not Muppet, when the Muppet's intelligence is less than 8 or higher than 15.
- If a non-Muppet is friends with a Muppet, they can understand them completely and oftentimes translate for the Muppet for those unable to understand.
Muppet Traits
As a Muppet, you gain the following traits:
Ability Score Increase. You gain +2 and +1 to stats of your choice, usually related to your represented character, i.e., +2 charisma and +1 wisdom for frog...
Age. Muppets mature instantly upon creation, reaching the age wanted when created. Muppets do not age, and need to have an overhaul every year to repair wear and tear.
Alignment. Muppets represent a large swathe of characters and can be any alignment.
Size. Muppets represent a wide range of character sizes, from small to Large. A large Muppet may need several Muppet Performers.
Speed. A Muppet has no speed on its own, but with Performer, can move at a base speed of 20 feet, usually with a hopping gait. A Muppet can have their Performer throw them at great speeds gaining a fly speed of 120 ft., but being without a Performer for 2 rounds.
Languages. You know Muppet, common, and one other language known by your Performer.
Inertness. While the Performer is away, i.e., sleep/recharging, you are inert. You have psychic awareness up to 1 mile with your most recent Performer and a danger sense up to 60 feet.
Plushy. You are immune to bludgeoning damage and vulnerable to fire damage. Any fire damage causes permanent scarring until mended.
Flail. While unarmed, you have a flail attack. This attack can be used once per short rest.
- Flail - Melee weapon attack: reach 10 feet, one creature. Hit: 1d8 + strength modifier bludgeoning damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 10 + your proficiency bonus Constitution saving throw or be knocked prone. If the saving throw is failed by 5 or more, the target is thrown 10 feet for every 5 failed in the direction of your choosing. A hit against another muppet has a DC of 20 + your proficiency bonus.
