Ramhounds
Some may find it uncharacteristic or downright wrong to bring a dog in combat. Rest assured, as ramhounds are often time the ones who jumps into combat and their rider has to follow them. They are more than capable of handling themselves in the wild or on the battlefield. You should be happy that they are content.
Ramhounds are mostly born in small lairs located meadows or clearings in forests. From their birth, they disassociate themselves from normal dogs for their size is one of an adult and they have tiny horns protruding from the top of their head. Ramhounds live up to roughly 60 years old accompanying their master for the better part of their life. They reach adulthood roughly at 4 years old where they stop growing in size, but their horns never stop growing. They require the help of their master or another ramhound to shape and file them.
Ramhounds are omnivores, but love hunting deers, wild sheeps or even bears sometime.
They are often taken in by people during their early age for training and companionship. Some cities even have whole battalions dedicated to riding ramhounds into combat. Those units are often feared on the battlefield for the agility, power and relentless fighting spirit of the mounts.
Throughout history, it has been noticed and put forward that a master should keep a ramhound extremely active or it might fall into a beastial depression.
