Way of the Abyss

Monks of the Way of the Abyss tradition dedicate themselves to channeling power from the abyss to become the deadliest of warriors. This tradition enables monks to become terrifying fiends on the battlefield wielding fire and darkness


Way of the Abyss Features

Dark Disciple

At 3rd level, you learn the ways of the Abyss

You learn to speak, read, and write Abyssal if you don't know it already. If you do know it, you can choose to learn another language of your choice. You also have advantage on History checks with regards to Fiends.

Infernal Warrior

At 3rd level, you learn to fight like a fiend. You gain the following benefits
Fire Combat: You learn the Firebolt cantrip if you don't know it already. If you already do, you can choose to learn another cantrip from the Warlock spell list. Whenever you cast Firebolt, you can use your bonus action to make an unarmed strike right after. Wisdom is your spell casting modifier
Fear Strike: When you hit another creature with a melee weapon Attack, you can spend 1 ki point to attempt a Fear Strike. The Target must must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A frightened creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the Effect on itself on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the Effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the Fear Strike for the next 24 hours.

Abyssal Form

At 6th level, your fiendish power grows. You gain the ability to transform to an Abyssal Form by using your bonus action. The transformation lasts 1 minute and whilst transformed you gain the following benefits

  • You posses immunity to frightened condition
  • You posses resistance to fire and necrotic damage
  • Whenever you cast Firebolt you can choose to change the damage type from fire to necrotic.

You can transform a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. If you have expended all uses, you can transform again by expending 3 Ki points.






















Rising Fiend

At 11th level, darkness becomes your weapon and fire becomes your ally. You gain the following abilities:

  • Devil Sight: You can see normally in darkness, both magical and non magical, to a distance of 120 feet.
  • Night curse. You can expend 2 ki points to cast the darkness spell. You can choose to cast with your bonus action
  • Fire Kin: Whilst in Abyssal Form, you have total immunity to fire damage not just resistance

Blazing Abyss

At 17th level, you are now one with your infernal power are now classified as a Fiend. As a result, you are permanently in Abyssal form and so have its abilities indefinitely.

You also gain the ability to cast Fireball at 3rd level. You can cast this spell a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. Whenever you cast this spell you can choose for the damage to be necrotic instead of fire. Wisdom is your spellcasting modifier
