Arachne folk
As the weary traveler approached the small inn in the middle of nowhere, he couldn't help but notice a sweet aroma emanating from one of the windows. Despite his initial suspicions, he decided to cautiously approach the front porch, which appeared old and rickety with small spider webs scattered throughout.
As he entered the tavern, he was greeted by the sweet smell once again, accompanied by soft music played by a string instrument. Behind the counter stood a beautiful woman dressed in traditional clothing, who offered him a meal for a surprisingly small fee and a room for the night. The woman promised to bring the meal up to his room when it was ready.
Upon entering his room, the traveler was surprised by how well-kept and comfortable it was. After a few minutes, there was a knock at the door, and the woman delivered his meal— a hearty stew of beef and various vegetables.
However, it wasn't long before the traveller started to feel dizzy and disoriented. He turned around to see the innkeeper standing in the doorway, her dress covering the lower half of her body and the low-burning candle casting eerie shadows around the room.
Suddenly, the man collapsed, his vision fading to black. As he lost consciousness, he saw spider legs emerge from beneath the innkeeper's dress, followed by thousands of tiny spiders scurrying towards him.
A true beginning
The spider-folk of Haven are a rare species, most often found in large caverns and in the underdark. There are some among them who also hunt on the surface, convincing the weakest to make themselves at home in their lair before feeding on them.
Legend has it that Helen, Goddess of Beauty, was jealous of a woman who had recently caught the attention of her husband, Ricktin, God of the Sea. Out of spite, Helen commanded her followers to capture, torture, and beat the woman, banishing her from the village. She found hope when a powerful archfae named Elina, the web wearer and Dark Patron of the Web, promised her justice in exchange for her service.
The woman became the first of her kind in over a century, reborn into beauty with the addition of six more legs and a large spider body. She felt magic surging through her, and the darkness that surrounded her was lifted as the night lit up, allowing her to see the surroundings. She plotted and shaped an illusionary false image, then lured the God of the Sea to her bed. He didn't see it coming, especially with the magic-infused drugs having paralysed him. She slowly skinned him alive, and with the deal done, Elina called forth her new left-hand woman, escaping to Haven, where the Arachne have been able to flourish.
The Arachne are known for their beauty, with appearances closer to elves and humans but with some rare instances of orcs. Their skin comes in pale and dark shades, and they have long, thick strands of hair in any colour. From the waist down, they have eight strong legs that support their weight and allow them to climb walls and roofs with ease. Despite their beauty, the Arachne's origin story is one of darkness and revenge. They are now feared and revered by many for their strength, agility, and cunning. The Arachne have been able to flourish in Haven.
