Sorcerous Origin: Vampiric Blood

The elf stood in horror as the humanoid figure gripped his friend by the neck, coils and wisps of blackened red magic oozing from the gaunt figure that accentuated their unnatural, glowing red eyes. The elf’s voice was caught in silence as he watched this figure extend their jaw, magic pouring from their throat to produce a pair of massive magical fangs before puncturing the skull of their victim, his essence slowly filling into the figure before him. As they licked their fangs and let the desiccated body drop to the floor, they then took notice of the elf. As the elf began to stand up, ready to charge with his meager shortsword, the figure snapped their fingers, and the small cut on their clavicle suddenly burst; showering the figure and floor in blood.

This is a Sorcerer of Vampiric Blood, or a Royal Vampire. Somewhere in your character’s bloodline there has been an ancient and powerful vampire, and their innate ability to control the essence of many creatures has been passed down and now runs in your blood. Vampiric Blood sorcerers are often greatly coveted by ancient vampires, as their blood holds power in itself, which is believed to be easily transferable to a vampire if they are slain and their essence is drunk.

Vampiric Magic

You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Vampiric Spells table. Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn't count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.

Whenever you gain a sorcerer level, you can replace one spell you gained from this feature with another spell of the same level. The new spell must be a Vampiric Magic spell.

Vampiric Spells
Sorcerer Level Spells
1st inflict wounds, vampiric vitality, bloodbend
3rd gruesome feast, sanguine hooks
5th bestow curse, bloodpulse
7th crimson puppet, death ward
9th esoteric thirst, exsanguinate

Furthermore, you do not need to provide a vampiric emblem to cast vampiric spells, provided you are missing at 1 least 1 hit point.

Draining Touch

Beginning at 1st level, whenever you deal damage to a creature with a sorcerer spell and you are within 30 feet of the creature, you can change the damage of the spell to necrotic damage and regain hit points equal to half of the damage dealt to that creature. You can use this feature an amount of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all uses at the end of a long rest. When you have no uses available, you can spend 1 sorcery point to use this feature again

Vampiric Blood

Beginning at 6th level when a vampiric spell would normally require fresh humanoid blood to be empowered, you can instead take necrotic damage equal to the spell's level (minimum 1) and empower the vampiric spell. This damage cannot break your concentration.

Devour

Beginning at 6th level, you have developed an unnatural hunger and thirst that can be empowered by your natural magic. As an action, you can expend an amount of sorcery points up to proficiency bonus and make a melee spell attack against a creature you can see within 30 feet of you, as you magically rush to an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the creature without taking attacks of opportunity. On hit, the creature takes an amount of 1d10s of necrotic damage equal to 2 + the amount of sorcery points expended, you gain temporary hit points equal to half of the damage dealt, and your lifespan extends by a number of minutes equal to the damage dealt.

Vampiric Vitality

Beginning at 14th your Vitality is much potent to being enhanced by the essence of others. Once per turn, whenever you regain hit points or gain temporary hit points, you can gain additional hit points or temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus.

Additionally, whenever you regain 10 or more hit points at once, you remove one level of exhaustion or one of the following conditions that is affecting you by expending 1 sorcery point; blinded, frightened, poisoned, or stunned. Whenever you use this feature, you can also reattach any limbs you may have lost.

Aspect of Strahd

Beginning at 18th level, you can take on a powerful vampiric form as an action, immediately regaining 30 hit points and removing all levels of exhaustion you may have and any of the following conditions; blinded, frightened, paralyzed, poisoned, and stunned. You can still take this action even if you are unable to take actions because of one of the conditions listed. Additionally, for the next hour, you gain the following benefits

  • You gain a flying speed of 60 feet as bloody wings erupt from your shoulder blades
  • Whenever you deal necrotic damage to a creature they are scarred and cannot regain hit points until 1 minute has passed or they are targeted with the Remove Curse spell.
  • When you deal damage to a creature, you can change the damage type to Necrotic. This damage ignores resistances, and doing so grants you 10 temporary hit points.
  • When you deal damage to a creature, you can choose to infect them with Sanguinare Vampiris.

Once you have used this feature you cannot use it again until you have completed a long rest or expended 6 sorcery points.
