With this selfishness, however, comes a cost: Locust monks are constantly in need of something, a need they can never fulfill. As a result, these monks are agents of scarcity wherever they go, earning them bad will with the towns they pass through due to their destructive nature. ## Way of the Locust Features | Class Level | Features | |:---:|:-----------:| | 3 | Draining Touch | | 6 | Destitute Soul | | 11 | Arcane Comsumption | | 17 | Realm of Famine | ### Draining Touch Starting at 3rd level, you can use your energy to drain the energies of others. When you make an unarmed attack, you can expend a ki point to deal an extra 1d6 necrotic damage. You then gain temporary hit points equal to half the damage the target receives, including resistances. This damage increases to 2d6 at 6th level, 3d6 at 11th level, and 4d6 at 17th level. ### Destitute Soul Starting at 7th level, you fall into destitution and are always found wanting for something. After a long rest, roll a 1d4 and consult the Scarcity Table found below to determine the scarcity that befalls you. Until your next long rest, you are under the effects of the Scarcity you rolled. Whenever you attempt to fulfill that Scarcity, you gain +1 to your next ability score, saving throw, or skill check. You cannot have more than a +3 bonus at a time, and you only gain one bonus for each separate unique attempt. For example, if you have the Hunger scarcity, sitting down for one meal would give you a +1 bonus, no matter how much you eat for that meal. \columnbreak #### Scarcity Table | Dice Result | Scarcity | |:---:|:-----------:| | 1 | Hunger. You are plagued with ceaseless hunger. Your stomach will never be full, no matter how much you eat. | | 2 | Debt. You are plagued with never ending debt. You can never hold a sum total of currency worth more than 1 copper piece at a time. When you attempt to hold a sum of currency that is worth more than 1 copper, the excess currency over 1 copper is consumed. For example, if the player attempts to hold 1 gold piece, all but 1 copper’s worth of that gold piece will disappear. | | 3 | Drought. You are plagued with incessant thirst. You are constantly parched, no matter how much water you drink. | | 4 | Insomnia. You are plagued with nonstop fatigue. You are always exhausted, no matter how much you sleep. | ### Arcane Consumption Starting at 11th level, you’ve learned how to drain the arcane energies of your enemies to replenish your own. When you fail a saving throw against a spell or are hit with a spell attack, as a reaction you can expend a ki point and make a WIS save. The DC equals 10 + the spell’s level. On a success, you drain the spell, taking half damage if the spell deals damage and regaining a number of ki points equal to half the spell’s level rounded up (minimum of 1 ki point). You can use this ability 2 times and regain all uses on a short rest. ### Realm of Famine Starting at 17th level, you can instate famine and destitution on a whim wherever you go. As a bonus action you can establish a Realm of Famine in a 15ft radius circle centered on you. A Realm of Famine lasts for 1 min and has the following effects on any creature or item of your choice within the Realm of Famine: * Any creatures of your choice that make a melee attack against you have a penalty to their attack and damage rolls equal to one roll of your martial arts die. * Choose a number of magic items up to your WIS modifier. The magical properties of these items are suppressed while in the Realm of Famine, akin to the Antimagic Field spell. When you attack, you gain a +1 bonus to your attack and damage rolls per magic item suppressed by this feature at the time of the attack. \pagebreakNum * Any spells that deal damage and enter the field have their damage halved, and you regain a number of ki points equal to your WIS modifier. If this spell affects more than one creature, the half damage is applied to them as well. If a spell applies damage over multiple turns, the ki point restoration applies to the first instance of damage. You can only use this feature once per long rest, unless you spend 7 ki points to reactivate it.
