Path of the Dragonheart
\pagebreak ## Path of the Dragonheart At 3rd level, a barbarian gains the Primal Path feature. The following option is available to a barbarian in addition to those found elsewhere. ### Description There are few creatures as old, powerful, and revered as dragons. Eons of history have been shaped by their presence, kingdoms have risen and fell under their gaze, and countless heroes have been made or unmade in the forge of their terrible might. It is only natural, then, that many cultures and peoples have arisen to place dragons in a place of respect, or even worship. The barbarian who walks the Path of the Dragonheart is more than an idolizer of dragonkind. They feel it coursing through their veins, driving them towards adventure. The weight of the calling they feel inside and the weight of dragons upon the history of the world is one and the same - and when they surrender to their impulses, the world trembles. In the field of battle, their enemies know that something with the heart of a true dragon stands before them, one whose power and awesome might bears a striking and troubling resemblance to the great wyrms of story and myth. ### Dragon Types The following tables present the major species of dragons as they are found in official materials. They represent the range of options available when needing to choose a type of dragon for your Dragonheart abilities. #### Chromatic Dragons | Scale Type | Damage | |:---:|:-----------:| | Black | Acid | | Blue | Lightning | | Green | Poison | | Red | Fire | | White | Cold | #### Metallic Dragons | Scale Type | Damage | |:---:|:-----------:| | Brass | Fire | | Bronze | Lightning | | Copper | Acid | | Gold | Fire | | Silver | Cold | \columnbreak #### Gemstone Dragons | Scale Type | Damage | |:---:|:-----------:| | Amethyst | Force | | Crystal | Radiant | | Emerald | Psychic | | Sapphire | Thunder | | Topaz | Necrotic | ## Path Features | Barbarian Level | Features Gained | |:---:|:-----------:| | 3rd | Furious Exhalation | | 6th | Scalehide Rager | | 10th | Voice of the Dragon Lords | | 14th | Aspect of the Greatwyrm | #### Furious Exhalation Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, your rage builds up inside your lungs as if your very breath is drawn from a source of indescribable strength. When you enter into a Rage, choose one scale type of dragon from the tables above. During your rage, when taking the Attack action, you can replace one of your attacks with an exhalation of magical energy. The shape of your breath weapon is determined by the scale type chosen (a 30ft line for Chromatic Dragon types or a 15ft cone for Metallic and Gemstone Dragon types). Each creature in the affected area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, the create takes damage associated with the chosen scale type equal to 2d6 + your rage damage bonus. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage. This dice rolled to determine this damage increase to d8s when you reach level 7, d10s when you reach level 10, and d12s when you reach level 14. You may use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses at the end of a long rest. #### Scalehide Rager The dragonblood in your veins boils to the surface when you let loose the full strength of your anger, manifesting in a physical transformation that reveals the nature of the dragon within. Beginning at 6th level, when you rage you gain the following benefits: - When meeting all conditions for your Unarmored Defense feature, your AC becomes 13 + your Dexterity modifier + your Constitution modifier instead. - You gain damage resistance to the type of damage chosen for your Furious Exhalation ability. \pagebreakNum #### Voice of the Dragon Lords The unrivaled power of the strongest dragons to ever fly over creation echoes within your soul, lending your voice fragments of their authority and fearsome presence. Beginning at 10th level, as a bonus action while raging you may choose to empower your rage with the Voice of a Dragon Lord, choosing between the following options: - **Tiamat:** The breath of the five-headed queen of the Chromatic Dragons fills you from within. At the start of each of your turns until your current rage ends, you regain one use of your Furious Exhalation ability. Additionally, you may replace any number of attacks with uses of that ability each turn, and you can change the type of damage dealt by the ability to any of the damage types associated with Chromatic Dragons each time you use it. - **Bahamut:** The shining beacon of justice and courage from which the Metallic Dragons sprang forth fills you and your allies with renewed focus. When choosing this option, you may expend a usage of your Furious Exhalation ability to create an aura with a 30ft radius centered on yourself until the end of your current rage. Within this aura, all charm and frighten effects are suppressed on creatures of your choice, and at the start of each of your turns, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Constitution modifier. - **Saardior:** The lost progenitor of the Gemstone Dragons embraces you, expanding the influence of your rage beyond physical limitations by imposing the weight of your presence directly into the psyche of your enemies. When choosing this option, you may expend a usage of your Furious Exhalation to cause all creatures of your choice within 60ft to make a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your Strength modifier + your proficiency bonus) or take psychic damage equal to 4d6 + your rage damage bonus and become frightened of you for 1 minute. While frightened in this way, a creature's speed becomes 0. Creatures who succeed on the saving throw take half the amount of damage and are not frightened. Affected creatures may repeat this save at the end of their turns, ending this effect on themselves on a success. You may only use this ability once per rage. After using this ability, you cannot do so again until you complete a long rest, unless you immediately suffer a level of exhaustion to do so again. #### Aspect of the Greatwyrm Like the mighty Greatwyrms of legend, you exemplify draconic grace while harboring vast power to overcome impossible odds. While raging and meeting all conditions of your Unarmored Defense feature, you can use a bonus action to sprout a pair of dragon's wings, giving you flying speed (hover) equal to your walking speed. These last until your rage ends, or you use a bonus action to dismiss them. Additionally, when you are reduced to 0 hit points while raging, you may use your reaction to invoke a terrible and awesome surge of draconic energy within your body, giving you the following benefits until the end of your current rage: - **Draconic Awakening:** Your hit points become 1, and you immediately gain temporary hit points equal to twice your barbarian level. You regain any expended usages of your Furious Exhalation ability. - **Legendary Resistance:** Once during the current rage, when failing a saving throw, you may choose to succeed instead. After using this feature, you cannot do so again until you complete a long rest.
