War-Born Differences

When war comes to the forest and the Firbolg's are disturbed for to long a tribe may birth a generation of War-Born Firbolg's, these Firbolg tend to tower above their clan mates with physically stronger bodies but much duller wit.

War-Born Features

Traits

  • Ability Score: When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1, Decrease one score by 1 (2 if the gm desires). You can't raise any of your scores above 20.

  • Creature type: Humanoid

  • Size: Large

  • Speed: Your walking speed is 30 feet.

  • Age: 300 years old.

  • Languages: Common and Giant

Abilities

  • Firbolg Magic: You can cast the Disguise Self spells with this trait. When you use this version of Disguise Self, you can seem up to 3 feet shorter or taller in addition to the spells normal ability. Once you cast Disguise Self with this trait, you can’t cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast these spells using any spell slots you have.

    • Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this spell when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race).
  • Hidden Step: As a bonus action, you can magically turn invisible until the start of your next turn or until you attack, make a damage roll, or force someone to make a saving throw. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

  • Speech of Beast and Leaf: You have the ability to communicate in a limited manner with Beasts, Plants, and vegetation. They can understand the meaning of your words, though you have no special ability to understand them in return instead the Firbolg must use their Animal Handling or Nature skill to interpret the answer. You have advantage on all Charisma checks you make to influence them.

  • Unshakable Honesty: You have disadvantage on all Deception Checks and any time you lie by omission or commission as it was engrained in them as a species. (If the GM permits the Firbolg's innate sense of truth gives advantage to insight checks vs lying.)

Creating a War-Born Firbolg

  • Female: Base Height: 8 feet. Height modifier: +2d12" (8'2"-10') Base Weight: 360lb. Weight modifier: 2d12 x 10lb (400lb-600lb)

  • Male: Base Height: 8'4". Height modifier: +2d12" (8'6"-10'4") Base Weight: 400lb. Weight modifier: 2d12 x 10lb (420lb-640lb)

Lore

A War-Born Firbolg are born, raised, and trained for a single goal, voilence. as such after the War-Born have fulfilled the goal set before them in protecting their clan it is almost customary and understood that they will be banished with high honors from their tribe, they will be able to return but will not be considered part of the clan.

When a War-Born Firbolg is banished and sent into the world at large they often find themselves as gladiators, pit fighters, bounty hunters, blacksmiths, nature guardians, or may find themselves going mad unable to take the isolation and uncontrolled might.

Some War-Born Firbolgs find themselves new families in the form of adventuring parties, eager to have a family to accept them and to be useful to more then themselves or simply for some companionship.

War-Born Firbolg's often tends to have a much shorter lifespan then normal firbolgs with old retired War-Born sometimes making it to 300 die to the intense requirements of their body.

Preferred Classes

A normal Firbolg is peaceful, kind, and hate voilence typically a Firbolg will be a druid, sorcerer, ranger, or cleric.

  • A War-Born Firbolg is the manifestation of the clans anger, fury, and might. typically a War-Born Firbolg will be a Barbarian, Fighter, Paladin, Monk, Rogue, or other martial class.
